Established in 1902, Lutheran Settlement House (LSH) is a non-profit, community-based organization committed to serving vulnerable children, adults, and families living in Philadelphia. Over the past century, the programs and services offered by LSH have changed in response to the evolving needs of the community. However, the core mission of Lutheran Settlement House —"to empower individuals, families, and communities to achieve and maintain self-sufficiency through an integrated program of social, educational, and advocacy services"— has remained constant.


Scope of Position:         

Under the supervision of the Counseling Supervisor, the Trauma Therapist is generally responsible for providing therapeutic and support services to adult survivors of domestic violence. Specifically, the Trauma Therapist will provide individual and group therapy informed by evidence-based models and trauma informed care. Other modalities such as Empowerment Counseling, Safety Planning and Advocacy will be utilized as well. The Trauma Therapist will oversee an intern as needed and assist with assessments and program evaluation. This position works closely and collaboratively with the Child Therapist/Advocate and DV Counselors/Advocates to provide comprehensive care to survivors of domestic violence. This position is currently hybrid but may shift as agency COVID-19 guidelines shift.

**Individual supervision toward Clinical Licensure will be provided. **

Functions and Duties: 

·      Provide individual, trauma-informed therapy/counseling to adults in the Bilingual Domestic Violence Program 

·      Support clients through crisis situations using de-escalation techniques, safety planning, and solutions-focused planning

·      Respond to client needs in creative ways to maintain a culture that ensures individual choice and fosters respect

·      Collaborate with BDVP staff to help develop and maintain a culture of trauma-informed care within the community

·      Assist in development and/or revising of session and program evaluations 

·      Maintain accurate client and other agency records 

·      Attend trainings/conferences on therapeutic modalities and other clinical best practices

·      Assist in research and development of counseling internship program in collaboration with colleges and appropriate facilities 

·      Train and provide supervision of interns (as needed) 

·      Provide scheduled hotline and walk-in coverage 

·      Collaborate with Counseling Supervisor and team, including attending weekly Counseling Peer Review Meetings and Staff Meetings

·      Other duties as assigned 


Qualifications

·      Master’s degree in social work or counseling is required

·      Experience counseling adults, preferably for domestic violence and sexual assault. Expected to demonstrate understanding of the dynamics of domestic violence, knowledge of community resources, and sensitivity to the needs of domestic violence victims and their families. 

·      Completion of a state mandated 40-hour domestic violence training and 5 hours of double staffing is required; can be completed upon hiring

·      Ability to work independently and as a member of a dynamic team

·      Experience with supervision of trainees and/or interns 

·      Strong organizational skills and basic computer competency

·      Ability to work with people from a wide variety of ethnic, racial, socio-economic, and religious backgrounds

·      Familiarity with Philadelphia agencies and resources
