    Position Overview

    A new role with NEW Pride Agenda (NPA)—Expanding our advocacy efforts, the Community

    Advocacy Coordinator position will be responsible for strengthening the organization's

    grassroots advocacy and civic engagement efforts across New York State. This role will support

    community members in becoming powerful advocates, connect local issues to statewide

    campaigns, and ensure that policy priorities reflect lived experiences.

    The ideal candidate is passionate about LGBTQ+ justice, enjoys working with people, and is

    skilled at mobilizing communities for advocacy in New York. This position operates at the

    intersections of organizing, leadership development, and policy work, and requires a balance of

    relationship-building, program coordination, and issue-based advocacy.

    Here's What You'll Do

    • Develop and maintain relationships with LGBTQ+ community members, partner

    organizations, and allies groups across New York State

    • Assist in planning, coordinating, and executing grassroots advocacy efforts including

    lobby days, know your rights trainings, town halls, and community forums

    • Support the mobilization of community members for legislative advocacy particularly

    during the Albany legislative session (Jan-June), including logistics and participant

    preparation

    • Contribute to the development and distribution of advocacy resources such as toolkits,

    fact sheets, and digital action alerts

    • Represent the organization at community events, coalition meetings, and advocacy

    gatherings as assigned

    • Provide testimony at public hearings and community forums, and engage directly with

    elected officials on advocacy priorities

    • Gather and document community stories, feedback, and experiences to inform advocacy

    campaigns and communications

    • Maintain accurate tracking and reporting of advocacy activities, community

    engagement, and outcomes

    • Support with community members accessing the Empowerment Center in a front-facing

    capacity including at special events to bridge the work between programs and advocacy

    Thriving In This Role

    The successful candidate should possess the following qualifications:

    • Demonstrated commitment to LGBTQ+ rights, racial equity, and social justice
    • Experience in community organizing, advocacy, or civic engagement (paid or volunteer)
    • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, including public speaking and facilitation
    • Awareness of the New York State and/or New York City legislative process and political

    landscape

    • Proven ability to build and maintain strong relationships with diverse stakeholders
    • Ability to work flexible hours, including occasional evenings and weekends
    • Willingness and ability to travel within New York State
    • Comfort working collaboratively in a hybrid team environment with BIPOC and gender-diverse individuals, with differing lived experiences

    Position Details

    ENTRY LEVEL | Community Advocacy Coordinator

    Working directly with the Statewide Policy & Advocacy Manager and Executive Director, and

    other advocacy related staff

    COMPENSATION | $45,000 (paid hourly); up to 30 hours per week

    Final compensation will depend on a variety of job-related factors which may include

    geographic location, work experience, knowledge, and skill level

    CLASSIFICATION | Exempt, part-time

    LOCATION | Hybrid with some travel; Preference for candidates based in NYC Metro-area,

    including Long Island

    PREFERRED (but not required) | Bilingual or multilingual skills
