Descrição

The Raleigh School seeks a highly qualified Director of Finance & Operations (DFO) to manage the school's financial and physical resources in a manner consistent with our school's mission and goals. This position is an integral part of the Senior Leadership Team, works closely with the Finance Committee of the Board of Trustees, and reports directly to the Head of School. The DFO plays a key role in advancing the strategic goals and vision while managing the financial, accounting, human resources, and facilities of The Raleigh School. This is an in-person, full-time, 12-month position.


The ideal candidate will be both a flexible self-starter and a collaborator who thrives working in a small organization and is comfortable prioritizing multiple responsibilities of various size and scope. Bachelor’s Degree in administration, accounting, finance or general management required, Master’s or equivalent experience preferred. CPA license preferred.


Preference will be given to those candidates with familiarity and experience in non-profit and mission-driven organizations, ideally in the education sector.

Responsibilities

Accounting & Financial Management: Lead all aspects of financial operations including budgeting, forecasting, and financial reporting. Ensure financial sustainability and align financial resources with strategic priorities.

  • Develop and manage financial policies, procedures, and internal controls to safeguard assets, protect confidential information, and ensure accurate financial reporting.
  • Drive the annual budget and multi-year forecasting process to align with the goals and mission.
  • Run tuition billing and collection, accounts payable, and payroll.
  • Provide financial reporting and analysis to school leadership and the board.
  • Coordinate the administration of the investment portfolio in partnership with the Investment Committee.
  • Plan, coordinate, and lead the annual financial audit, ensuring audit timeliness and completeness.
  • Handle the annual preparation and filing of Form 990.
  • Serve as a member of the Tuition Assistance Committee.

Human Resources: Manage HR functions, including benefits administration and recruitment, hiring, onboarding, and performance management policy.

  • Ensure that human resources policies and practices are clearly articulated, consistently applied, and conform to legal requirements.
  • Coordinate and manage all employee benefit programs including health insurance, retirement, worker’s compensation, life and disability insurance, and other related plans.
  • Provide strategic and financial oversight of auxiliary operations including extended care, clubs, and summer programming.

Strategy & Planning: Aid in the development of school strategy, providing recommendations, financial analysis, projections, and other data to inform the process.

  • Understand the culture and climate of the school and the wider educational environment.
  • Remain current with business management trends and cultivate professional standards by participating in educational opportunities, reading professional publications, maintaining personal networks, and participating in professional organizations.
  • Assist the school in reaching its short and long-term strategic priorities.

Facilities Management: Supervise the maintenance and improvement of school facilities, ensuring a safe and welcoming environment for students, staff, and visitors.

  • Supervise the school’s Facilities Manager.
  • Coordinate with external vendors and contractors.
  • Plan and execute annual and long-term facility maintenance.

Risk & Compliance: Ensure compliance with all relevant local, state, and federal regulations, as well as internal policies and procedures.

  • Act as a liaison with School legal counsel and insurance providers regarding risk matters.
  • Manage insurance and vendor relationships with the school’s insurance broker, review and ensure appropriate coverage limits and risk management strategies  for liability, workers compensation, property, cyber security and fidelity bond.
  • Identify and mitigate financial and reputational risks to the school.

Required Skills & Capacities

  • Maintain high ethical standards.
  • Possess excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Proficient in Blackbaud or similar School Information System.
  • Strong capacity to work collaboratively with members of all School constituencies including board members, school representatives, parents, students, and representatives from the business and financial services communities.
  • Keen analytical skills and a meticulous work style.
  • Confirmed dedication to supporting and encouraging inclusion, diversity, equity, and accessibility in all areas.
  • Ability to think and plan strategically and creatively.
