Job Description

The Middle School Science Teacher at High Meadow School is an educator looking to teach and collaborate closely with colleagues in a school setting that values student voice, inquiry, and teaching within authentic contexts that connect to our immediate community. The Middle School Science Teacher will provide an inquiry-based, hands-on science program to students in 7th and 8th grade. They will serve as a middle school advisor to 9-10 students within a 5th-8th grade cohort. The middle school science teacher will work closely with a second science educator for 5th and 6th grades, instructing students in cohorts of less than 20 students to provide engaging learning opportunities for children.

  • Design and implement a comprehensive conceptual-based and standards-aligned science curriculum for students in 7th and 8th grade.
  • Build close partnerships with students and their families as a middle school homeroom advisor.
  • Create a welcoming, equitable, and supportive learning environment for all students.
  • Establish warm and trusting relationships with students.
  • Regularly assess student progress using a variety of methods.
  • Differentiate instruction for each learner based on individual student needs.
  • Communicate learning progress regularly to students and their families.
  • Collaborate with colleagues in the middle school to plan curriculum, discuss student progress/support, and align student-centered discipline approaches.
  • Participate in professional development opportunities offered at the school.
  • Other duties as assigned by supervisor .

Work Details

  • This is a full-time, 10-month position.
  • This position functions onsite 5 days per week.
  • The job is performed in a generally hazard free environment.

  • Alignment to the HMS mission and core beliefs
  • Experience teaching science in a school setting required
  • Teaching Certification in Science (7-12) preferred
  • Experience designing inquiry-based, place-based science curriculum preferred
  • Commitment to a school environment that empowers children to participate in decision making and make choices in their own learning
  • Believe in student-centered, restorative discipline approaches
  • Must be comfortable incorporating technology into teaching practice
  • Commitment to culturally responsive teaching practices
  • Strong classroom management skills
  • Skilled at communicating and collaborating with colleagues

  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality and judgment regarding privileged information

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $41,000.00 - $51,000.00 per year
