We are hiring for a Donor Development Associate to help build the resources to advance our environmental priorities across the state of Oregon.

Every day, we see more heartbreaking evidence of the damage being done to our planet: climate change, plastic pollution, wildlife disappearing forever. But we also see the solutions all around us: solar and wind power, electric cars and buses, more walkable and “bikeable” cities, reusing and repairing stuff instead of throwing it away… the list goes on. Thousands of Environment Oregon members feel passionately about these issues, and as our Donor Associate, you would meet with members of Environment Oregon to share more about our work, make their voices heard, and raise money to fund our work to reduce plastic pollution, address the climate crisis, and more.

You’ll be part of the in-state advocacy team as well as part of our national team of dedicated development professionals that deepen the financial and political support of members of Environment Oregon and other groups in The Public Interest Network.

The ideal candidate is passionate about protecting nature, believes in the power of building a community of supporters, and is a proven fundraiser who sees fundraising as a powerful way to advance change.

REPRESENTATIVE RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

Direct Fundraising

  • Implement a monthly strategy of writing, calling, and holding one-on-one meetings with current members and prospective donors to share stories about our work and invite them to deepen their financial support. You’ll typically visit with approximately 20 members each month.
  • Meet specific weekly and monthly fundraising benchmarks, which are related to annual organizational fundraising goals so we can sustain and expand our campaigns.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with donors from Environment Oregon and from other groups within The Public Interest Network.
  • Cultivate engaged donors to assist with fundraising events like virtual webinars or house parties, in person when safe to do so.

Donor Stewardship & Development

  • Be a personal point of contact with donors throughout the year, creating and sending at least ten personalized updates.
  • Engage donors in program and organizational work, such as events or campaign actions both online and in-person when safe to do so.
  • Develop and implement customized cultivation strategies for top donors, working directly with our advocacy staff to craft compelling narratives.
  • Be the point of contact between our advocacy staff and members.
  • Maintain excellent notes on all contacts with information about members and donors.

Administration

  • Understand the importance of systems and diligently track income, expenses and contacts on a daily, weekly, and monthly basis.
  • Implement required legal disclosures and other administrative duties as assigned.

MISSION AND BACKGROUND:

Environment Oregon is a policy and action group with tens of thousands of supporters across the state. Our mission is to protect clean air, clean water, and open space. Over the last 40+ years we have worked to:

  • win a statewide ban on single-use plastic bags
  • commit Oregon to be powered by 100 percent clean electricity by 2040.
  • pass the Great American Outdoors Act to increase funding to our public lands and guarantee $900m dedicated funding through the Land and Water Conservation Fund.
  • pass a bill to modernize Oregon’s recycling system by requiring producers to bear some of the costs of the waste management system.

Our top priorities are to:

  • Reduce plastic pollution by banning the most egregious single-use plastics like polystyrene foam that wreak havoc on wildlife and our environment.
  • Support the effort underway to reintroduce sea otters to the Oregon coast to bolster the endangered species and revitalize our kelp forests.
  • Ensure that our local, state and federal leaders take meaningful action to mitigate climate change.

TRAINING:

Environment Oregon has a great training program. Development Associates participate in an intensive, paid training for the first week of the job, which is immediately followed by the first 1-month fundraising cycle. All associates take part in state, regional, and national trainings and meetings throughout the year. There are opportunities for travel and advancement.

QUALIFICATIONS:

We are looking for change-makers. Qualified candidates will be smart and motivated college graduates who are passionate about making an impact, love fundraising and have excellent written and verbal communication skills. The ideal candidate will have at least 1 year of fundraising experience, excellent judgement and discretion, and the ability to oversee significant projects.
