Job Summary

Catholic Social Services’ Immigration department provides free and low-cost legal services to low-income immigrants in Southeastern Massachusetts. It represents immigrants and their families applying for green cards; defense from deportation; asylum protections; temporary statuses for survivors of crime, trafficking, or domestic abuse; and other lawful statuses. It also conducts outreach in the form of counseling, education, and training, both to the immigrant community, and to health and human services providers and local partners who serve immigrants.

The IVRP Staff Attorney will carry an independent caseload centered primarily on statuses for survivors of crime, trafficking, and abuse. Casework will involve legal representation in both the affirmative and defensive (immigration court) contexts, as well as, to a lesser extent, connecting survivors with wraparound victim/trauma services. Representing these survivors requires compassion, empathy, and dedication to creating a safe space for discourse. Collegiality and interpersonal skills will also be critical, as the Staff Attorney will share in the supervision of paralegals, law student interns, and volunteers. The Staff Attorney will participate in program grant reporting that requires honed organizational skills. Additionally, the Staff Attorney will engage in community outreach, and support all activities related to the daily operations of the department, all while promoting agency culture and the respect and dignity of our clients.
