Young Playwrights’ Theater (YPT) seeks a Communications Manager to develop and implement communications and marketing strategies in support of YPT’s mission to inspire young people to realize the power of their voices through storytelling.

Founded in 1995, YPT believes that creative expression and theater are valuable tools for the education, enrichment, and self-actualization of young people. Through our programs and productions, we fulfill their creative vision by hiring professional artists to guide and perform original youth-generated work for their peers and for the public. YPT believes that it is important that youth, especially those whose voices are often minimized, have access to high-quality arts education that centers their experience and is culturally competent and affirming for all young people involved. YPT believes that young people are inherently brilliant, and we exist to share that brilliance with the world.

In order to do this work, YPT acknowledges oppression and reduces its harm through our internal and external structures and practices. Aligned with our organizational values, we make decisions and implement projects through an anti-oppressive lens. We seek a Communications Manager who shares our values and is passionate about prioritizing antiracist and anti-oppressive principles in their storytelling.

The Communications Manager will cultivate and steward an active community of YPT donors, audience members, students, partners, artists, and other key constituents. The successful candidate will leverage YPT’s story of impact to build interest and a stronger connection to YPT’s vision and work, and to market YPT events, program enrollments, and products. They will be responsible for YPT’s annual print and digital communications, marketing, social media, community engagement, and media relations activities, creating and distributing a variety of written and visual content. They will report to the Executive Director and will work closely with the Development Director, Education Director, and Artistic Director to support YPT’s fundraising, programmatic, and production goals.

YPT seeks a candidate who writes clearly and persuasively, meets deadlines, and demonstrates attention to detail. The ideal candidate is a relationship builder and an organizational storyteller with journalistic curiosity. While not required, we prefer at least two years of experience in a related field. The successful candidate will have a passion for arts education, value organizational systems, be a self-starter, and think creatively about discovering and sharing stories about YPT’s work. Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Squarespace, Adobe Creative Cloud, Canva, DSLR photography, and photo editing preferred. The ability to travel to YPT classrooms across the DC region is required.

Benefícios

This position is full-time, partially remote, and the starting salary is $55K. In recognition of the ways that posting salary ranges unjustly benefits people of privileged identities who are most comfortable navigating salary negotiations, YPT transparently posts and grants the highest budgeted salary for all open positions rather than posting a salary range in anticipation of a salary negotiation. 

Benefits include paid time off, flexible work schedule, annual week-long winter office closing, paid holidays, employer-sponsored medical and dental insurance, Flexible Spending Account for medical expenses, transportation, and parking, stipend for remote office supplies, 403(b) plan, and 12 weeks of fully covered family and medical leave. 

YPT is headquartered in the Takoma neighborhood of Washington, DC and our offices are accessible by public transportation. YPT maintains a partially remote working environment in which each employee has a combination of in-office and work-from-home days each week.

All YPT employees are required to demonstrate proof of COVID-19 vaccination (two shots of the Moderna or Pfizer vaccine, or one shot of the Johnson and Johnson vaccine), as well as proof of a booster shot if it has been six months since their second Moderna or Pfizer shot, or three months since their Johnson and Johnson shot.
