Cardea is a national, women of color-led organization that provides social impact evaluation, policy advancement, capacity development, and professional learning services to health and human service organizations. The Social Impact Writer is an exciting new position that will work closely with teams across Cardea to develop and enhance captivating, accessible publications, presentations, messaging materials, evaluation summaries, responses to proposals, and other written materials. The Social Impact Writer supports cohesive communication of our work and learnings among collaborators and the communities with which we work and is driven by a passion for equity, justice, and social change. This a full-time position that reports directly to the President/CEO.

 

Specific Duties

  • Provides strategic writing support across a range of subject matters and disciplines in alignment with Cardea’s vision, mission, and values
  • Writes and develops compelling content that is accessible to the focus audience(s), working with the Cardea team to produce drafts of critical communications materials and develop them into final products (e.g., evaluation reports and summaries, presentations, resource documents, strategic recommendations, messaging materials, web copy, and social media content)

·      Manages day-to-day progress toward team development of written materials, creating and executing plans to mitigate issues that arise and ensuring that timelines are met

·      Supports translation and transcreation of key written materials

  • Builds and manages trusting relationships across a range of partners, anticipating partner and team needs during the planning, development, and implementation of initiatives

·      Ensures content quality through editing, proofreading, and coordinating production of a variety of written materials

·      Oversees brand implementation, collaborating with the Cardea team to develop communication initiatives and guidelines

 

Skills and Abilities

  • A degree, or equivalent, in relevant field such as writing, communications, English, journalism, public health, public administration, social work, economics, sociology, or a related field.

·      Experience developing and managing complex publications such as evaluation/research reports, annual reports, technical documents, and in-depth training resources

·      Knowledge and experience in health and human service issues and subject matter expertise related to population and family health, sexual and reproductive health and well-being, early childhood care and education, behavioral health, and/or school health

·      Knowledge of mixed methods evaluation approaches and communication strategies

·      Knowledge and experience in working with diverse constituencies including public agencies, nonprofit organizations, and community groups and organizations

·      Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively in writing and verbally with colleagues, clients, and program partners

·      Demonstrated experience managing multiple tasks and in organizing and prioritizing work assignments and ongoing duties

·      Ability to rapidly assimilate new information and adjust to dynamic work environment

·      Willingness and ability to travel locally, regionally, and nationally with overnight stays

·      Proficiency in Microsoft Windows and Microsoft Office, including Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and SharePoint
