The Legal Assistant Role
Family Law CASA is seeking a reliable and proactive professional to provide support to the Program Attorney in all legal matters at Family Law CASA. This person will be responsible for all administrative duties related to court cases, communication and proceedings and is an integral member of our 9 person staff team. We are looking for a motivated, self-starter with excellent attention to detail, who can work effectively in a fast-paced environment, who is committed to racial equity and is passionate about our mission. This is a full-time, non-exempt position that reports to our Program Attorney.
Major Functions:
· Provide administrative support for the Program Attorney
· Responsible for managing and updating all court dates and deadlines, confirming hearings, pre-trial conferences, and trial schedules
· Manage, maintain and draft all legal documents including pleadings, motions, proposed parenting plans, trial exhibits and final orders
· Mange communication with court personnel including Orders Appointing CASA, pleadings, and other related documents
· Manage new case files for program staff and volunteer advocates, track in database when case is assigned or closed, type up parties’ background checks for each new case
· Complete final edits, process and distribute CASA Reports to Court, as well as other documents
· Coordinate on-going legal communications with attorneys and parties
· Coordinate contract attorney coverage and invoicing; maintain W9 for each
· Obtain documents from court files (possible requirement to commute to Kent or Seattle Superior Court Clerk’s office)
· Participate in FLC staff meetings, program team meetings, DEI trainings, and other periodic events such as advocate trainings, our annual breakfast and donor events.
Qualifications:
Formal Education
Bachelors Degree or any combination of education and experience that qualify a candidate for this position.
