Descrição

The Reiss Center on Law and Security (RCLS) at NYU School of Law and the NYU Center for Cybersecurity (CCS) are seeking an enterprising, dynamic Program Associate. The Program Associate role offers an opportunity to contribute to all aspects of our work on many of the most challenging national security and cybersecurity issues of our time.

We are looking for a collegial teammate who is curious and excited about learning new subjects and skills; who is sharp, self-driven, and dedicated to quality output; and who maintains good judgment and attention to detail while working across multiple projects.

About Us

The Reiss Center on Law and Security is a non-partisan multidisciplinary research institute focused on cultivating an informed dialogue, educating the next generation of leaders, and fostering groundbreaking research on the vital law and policy questions that will shape the national security field for years to come. Reiss Center publications and events include an original, open-source database tracking presidential war powers practice over five decades; high-level panel discussions on topics such as foreign intelligence surveillance reform, the indictments against the former president, and geopolitical developments; and keynote addresses and fireside chats with leading experts, including senior government officials. The Reiss Center is home to Just Security, the online publication on law, rights and national security. Reiss Center leadership and affiliates have significant collective experience in national security law and policy – including at the State Department, White House, and Department of Justice – and include regional and foreign policy experts and legal scholars.

The NYU Center for Cybersecurity is an interdisciplinary research institute at New York University that is dedicated to training current and future generations of cybersecurity professionals and to shaping both public discourse and the legal, policy and technological landscape on issues of cybersecurity. Its unique structure as a partnership between NYU School of Law and the Tandon School of Engineering provides exciting opportunities to examine cybersecurity law and policy while supported by deep technical expertise. CCS also runs several scholarship programs for law and engineering students to bring more students into the cyber field. CCS’s recent activities at NYU School of Law include the Women Leaders in Cybersecurity conference series, a multi-panel event on Crime, Security and International Regulation of Artificial Intelligence, and smaller dinner roundtables covering the creation of a diversion program for juvenile cyber offenders and developer liability for software flaws.

Key Responsibilities

As Program Associate, you will be an integral part of the team, with an opportunity to take initiative and excel across a range of vital responsibilities. Specific duties include:

  • Conduct research and draft memos on national security, foreign policy, cybersecurity and related issues—ranging from news-driven rapid response initiatives to major, multi-month innovative research projects.
  • Help design and execute how we communicate our work, including by managing the centers’ WordPress-based websites and Mailchimp distributions, and by enhancing our online presence through social media and other outreach.
  • Coordinate event preparation for both virtual and in-person events, including sending invitations and managing RSVPs, corresponding with speakers, helping design and prepare materials for distribution, and providing day-of staffing and other logistical support.
  • Assist in conceiving and developing new programs and initiatives.
  • Liaise with the centers’ fellows and external partners, speakers, and other leaders in the field to further the centers’ programming.
  • Assist the centers’ leadership with preparation for their national security and cybersecurity coursework at NYU Law.
  • Provide occasional research and drafting for Just Security.
  • Assist the Operations Manager with finance and other administrative tasks, including working with and supervising student interns.

Experience and Qualifications

Competitive candidates will have:

  • Bachelor’s degree in relevant subject area, including International Relations, Political Science, History, or related field.
  • At least one year of relevant professional experience and/or advanced degree preferred.
  • Excellent research, proofreading and editing skills, with a commitment to quality.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong organizational and multitasking skills with a keen attention to detail.
  • Ability to meet deadlines and work calmly in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with others but also to act as a self-starter with substantial independence and keen judgment.
  • Background and interest in U.S. foreign policy and national security, and/or cybersecurity and tech policy.
  • Comfort with or willingness to become fluent with the following tools:
  • WordPress
  • Mailchimp
  • Zoom meetings and webinar management
  • Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, Excel, etc.)
  • Social media: X, Facebook, LinkedIn, etc.
  • Ideally you will also have an eye for visual design and branding.
  • Ability to work occasional evening or off-hours for events or other demands.
