    Position Title: Leadership Training Program Case Manager

    Reports To: Leadership Program Manager

    Community: Alameda County

    Office Location: Oakland, CA (up to 50% hybrid role of in-person and remote)

    Compensation: $24.65/hour (approx. $51,272/year), generous benefits package

    The FLY Leadership Training Program is a ten-month program for youth who are interested and motivated to become changemakers in their communities. Youth are identified based on their needs for support particularly around education, legal advocacy, social support, and safety.     Leadership Training Program Case Manager - Position Summary

    Each year, the Leadership Training Program Case Manager assumes the responsibility for developing a group of approximately 13 youth from a Leadership Cohort of 26. To support youth to step into their leadership, the Case Manager is also responsible for connecting them to resources in the community and attending family, probation, school, and other external program meetings. Case managers work with youth 1:1 and in small groups to set goals around leadership, education, and building skills, including self-awareness, social awareness, critical thinking, and self-advocacy. The Case Manager is also expected to support the coordination and execution of fun events and service learning projects, all while engaging in community meetings and events that serve FLY’s youth.

    Position Responsibilities

    Youth and Community Engagement (Recruitment)

    • Work with the Leadership team and FLY’s Law team to identify youth who could benefit from the Leadership program
    • Support the Leadership team in partnering with FLY’s Law Program to pitch and recruit the program to youth
    • Follow up on relationships and partnerships established in the county to recruit youth
    • Represent the Leadership Program at community resource fairs
    • Engage and support current peer leaders and peer mentors in the youth recruitment process

    Provide Ongoing Case/Crisis Management for 13 youth (Development Phase)

    • Build relationships with each youth on your caseload and meet 1:1 monthly, utilizing a healing-informed and strengths-based approach to develop SMART goals that will identify needs and action steps in program focus areas such as education
    • Utilize a collaborative approach to problem-solving to respond to youth crisis to confront the challenges youth face in transforming their lives
    • Support and Advocate for youth during court hearings, probation meetings, school meetings, etc.
    • Locate resources in the community and connect youth to resources to address needs identified through the assessments and the development plan
    • Maintain thorough case management paperwork, including but not limited to the following: assessments, case management notes, client contracts, and development plans.
    • Maintain relationships and communication with supervisor and stakeholders, including youth, family, FLY’s Career Pathways Navigator, school, probation, and other community and system partners.

    Plan and Facilitate Activities for Leadership Program Cohort of 26 (Leadership Phase)

    • Continue 1:1 support with youth on caseload, utilizing motivational interviewing to coach youth as they work to hone in on their interests, build on their strengths, and develop their leadership skills
    • In collaboration with the Leadership Team, plan pro-social activities, including fun events, team-building exercises, and community service projects for the Leadership cohort
    • Partner with youth to create and facilitate agenda for activities, with a focus on developing social-emotional and leadership skills
    • Maintain communication with youth, family, community, and system partners to ensure youth have the accessibility, permission, and support needed to participate in activities; ensure key partners are updated on youth’s progress
    • Engage youth in program opportunities to deepen historical and cultural understanding of their experiences and community issues

    Engage In Community Meetings/Events (Civic Engagement Phase)

    • Attend and actively participate in regular community meetings, Multi-Service Team (MST) aligning with program and youth needs and opportunities
    • Support youth in participating in community spaces that allow them to elevate their voice, engage in advocacy, and take action on issues impacting youth and the community
    • Engage peer mentors, FLY leaders, and other community partners to facilitate activities to engage youth in social education and awareness
    • Work with the Leadership team to plan and facilitate service learning projects to support the Leadership cohort in building a collective identity of young people as change agents

    This position is a full-time non-exempt role at a rate of $24.65/hourly with differential pay options based on an advanced degree and, when applicable to the role, speaking another language. Our Total Rewards Package also includes the following:
