DEPUTY DIRECTOR, GRANTS

Location: Remote; within EST and CET time zones (including all time zones and regions in between)

Reports to: Director of Strategic Partnerships

Hours Per Week: Full time

Overtime Status: Exempt

We Mean Business Coalition (WMB) is a global coalition of nonprofit organizations, working with the world’s most influential businesses to take action on climate change. We are working to transform the world economy so that it is on track to limit global heating to 1.5°C in ways that deliver sustainable economic growth and shared prosperity. Through unprecedented collaboration, we catalyze business action and drive ambitious policy to halve emissions by 2030 and accelerate an inclusive transition to a net-zero economy by 2050, at the latest.  

The Operations team is recruiting for a new, exciting role ideal for an entrepreneurial and ambitious grants management leader. The Deputy Director of Grants will lead internal processes around grantmaking, grants management, reporting, and impact in support of We Mean Business’ growing portfolio of grantees. 

 

Responsibilities:

  • Set and lead the organizational strategy, vision, and priorities for grant making, including designing and executing competitive awards/grant cycles  
  • Manage team members on the Grants team, including the Grants Associate and Grants Manager 
  • Ability to lead grant management across a lean and subject matter expert driven organization, including providing grants management training to departmental grant leads
  • Support the launch and continuous improvement of enterprise level grants management software (Fluxx)
  • Improve the end-to-end grantee experience across the grant cycle, with a focus on ensuring that our processes and operations drive equity and are grounded in grantee centricity 
  • Work closely with the Impact Manager to ensure proper analytics and impact measurement associated with the overall grants portfolio 
  • In partnership with Grants team, Director of Finance & HR, and other Secretariat staff, develop and manage grant operations, including due diligence, award administration, grantee experience, budget planning and grants management 
  • Continually evaluate, prioritize, and enhance existing processes and systems to drive improvements, efficiencies, and compliance risk mitigation 
  • Develop customer centric trainings and resources for internal stakeholders and external partners on grants process  
  • Manage grants compliance and due diligence initiatives by assisting in annual audits, developing risk mitigation processes, and serving as an internal resource for colleagues and stakeholders  
  • Support budget management and forecasting processes to support organizational fiscal stewardship  
  • Contribute to a team culture of innovation, enterprise-level thinking, collaboration, and impact

  • Ability to manage competing deadlines and priorities 
  • Exceptional attention to detail, follow through problem-solving skills 
  • Team player with respect for others and strong interpersonal skills. Must be able to work well with and adapt to different communication styles across a globally distributed team  
  • Interest in continuously improving processes, an ability to easily adapt to change and an eagerness to grow with the position as the organization’s needs evolve 
  • Superb Excel and PowerPoint skills 
  • Exceptional written and verbal English language communication skills 

Education & Experience:

  • Ten (10) plus years experience directing or leading a portfolio of grants at a foundation, charity, non-profit, or other granting institution.  
  • Demonstrated ability to manage, coach and lead team of direct reports 
  • Master’s degree in a relevant field preferred 
  • Knowledge of Fluxx Grants Management software preferred
