The Position

The Friends Committee on National Legislation (FCNL), an established Quaker lobbying organization on Capitol Hill, is seeking a Social Media and Digital Communications Manager to assist the communications team in interpreting and communicating FCNL’s activities and programs to grassroots audiences across FCNL’s digital platforms. The person in this role will need a passion for social media and a strong understanding of social media platforms like Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter. This position is also responsible for supporting the writing, editing, posting, and distribution of FCNL’s digital content across web and email platforms and the tracking and reporting of digital analytics.

The FCNL communications team is highly collaborative. We work closely together to engage impactful storytelling across platforms.

Key Priorities and Responsibilities

  • Social Media (40%):
  • Manage and oversee FCNL’s social media platforms and engage the communities using them.
  • Develop and curate engaging written, video, and photo content for social media platforms (currently Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter).
  • Attend events and produce live social media content, including video reels.
  • Monitor social media trends, including developments in design, platforms, strategy, and innovation to stay relevant and effective.
  • Web & Email (40%)
  • Assist with the writing, editing, and distribution of content across FCNL websites and email platforms.
  • Support the production and distribution of FCNL’s digital newsletters.
  • Represent the communications team in coalition efforts that will require FCNL’s communications resources.
  • Administrative (10%)
  • Review digital analytics and create regular reports on key metrics across digital channels (social, web, email, etc.)
  • Maintain FCNL’s Editorial and Production Calendar and coordinate periodic calendar reviews.
  • Produce the weekly Communications Update
  • Train and assist staff on the tools used to create digital communications products, including capturing video and photographic content.
  • Other duties (10%) as assigned by the director of digital communications, social media and editorial director, or the associate general secretary for communications.

Experience and Attributes

  • A bachelor’s degree (journalism, new media, or other communications-related degree) or equivalent experience.
  • At least 1-3 years of professional experience.
  • Passion for social media and proficiency with major social media platforms and social media management tools.
  • Strong writing and editing skills.
  • Ability to produce quality content on short deadlines.
  • Experience with website and email technology. Experience with Drupal (CMS) and ActionKit (CRM) is a plus.
  • Detail-oriented approach with the ability to work under pressure to meet deadlines.
  • Able to work both independently and collaboratively to advance organizational communications objectives.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to juggle competing priorities
  • Able to work systematically and carry out regularly scheduled tasks without prompting
  • Comfortable working in an office environment that reflects the Quaker testimonies of peace, equality, simplicity, and truth; and working within the Quaker process of FCNL.

Compensation

  • Salary range is $63,000 - $73,000 and is negotiable based on experience and qualifications.
  • This is a full-time exempt position based on a 37.5-hour work week. This position is located in Washington, D.C. The employee will work with the supervisor to determine the in-office, remote, or hybrid work arrangement. There will be times when the employee is required to come to the office for meetings, events, or to complete projects. This position may involve occasional travel (10%), mainly to attend professional meetings and conferences.
