The Institute for Agriculture and Trade Policy (IATP) is looking for a full-time Development Manager, based in our Minneapolis, MN office. This position works closely with the Executive Director, the IATP Board Development Committee, and program and communications staff to create and implement a comprehensive and engaging development strategy. The Development Manager is responsible for the management of fundraising activities across the organization and building lasting partnerships with donors to advance the mission of IATP. This role reports to the Executive Director.

IATP works locally and globally at the intersection of policy and practice to ensure fair and sustainable food, farm and trade systems. 

Who are we?

The Institute for Agriculture and Trade Policy is a nonprofit think tank and policy advocacy organization with its headquarters in Minneapolis. We have a 35-year history of pursuing just and resilient food and agriculture policies that benefit family farmers, food and agriculture workers, rural communities and the planet. Our 17-member staff work locally, nationally and globally, connecting the dots in the food system. We match high-level research and analysis with on-the-ground engagement to bring policies to fruition. We have offices in Minneapolis, MN, Washington, D.C. and Berlin, Germany.

Who are you?

You are committed to our mission and interested in the range of work and approach IATP takes to food and agriculture advocacy. You are an experienced and organized project manager, attentive to detail but able to see the big picture of the institute’s varied portfolio of projects. A good communicator, you enjoy writing and are ready to work collaboratively with the Executive Director and program staff to shape strong funding proposals and meet grant reporting requirements. You play a central role in building relationships among staff and between IATP and the organization’s funders.

 

Responsibilities

·      Develop and implement fundraising goals and strategies with the Executive Director;

·      Identify potential funding opportunities;

·      Work with program staff to develop descriptions of programs and projects for possible funding;

·      Coordinate proposals from conceptualization through submission and reporting;

·      Coordinate with finance and program staff to develop grant budgets and financial reporting methods;

·      Steward relationships and consistent communication with funders throughout the grant cycle, including acknowledgements of the receipt of grant funds with funder requirements and reporting of deliverables;

·      Oversee individual donor campaigns from creation to solicitation to acknowledgement;

·      Staff the board Development Committee, attend board meetings and respond as requested to board inquiries about development;

·      Work with the communications team to produce and disseminate the Annual Report;

·      Contribute to the planning and implementation of IATP public events;

·      Support the overall goals and objectives of IATP through additional responsibilities as needed.

 

Required Skills, Experience and Education

·      Minimum of three years of experience in nonprofit development

·      Minimum of a bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience

·      Excellent writing, editing and proofreading skills

·      Knowledge of foundation grant procedures and practices

·      Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and Adobe

·      Commitment to the mission of IATP

·      Profound sense of professionalism and excellent interpersonal skills

·      Ability to meet deadlines and produce quality work while balancing competing priorities

·      Position requires favorable result of criminal background check and I-9 verification

 

Preferred Skills

·      Proven experience in technical grant writing

·      Knowledge of IATP core issues, at the intersection of climate change, agriculture and trade

 

Physical Requirements

·      Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.

·      Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.

·      Occasional travel may be required outside the local area and overnight.

 

Salary and Benefits


The compensation for this role is $55,000 - $65,000 and is commensurate with skills and experience, as well as equity within the organization.


IATP offers a comprehensive benefits package which includes: medical, dental, vision, life insurance, long-term disability, accidental death and dismemberment insurance, 403(b) retirement plan, paid time off (including one week of paid holiday in July and another in December), an employee assistance program, subsidized public transport, and mobile phone plan.
