SFAF’s Syringe Access and Disposal Services (SAS) is the largest syringe access and disposal health engagement program in the state of California serving over 14,000 participants per year. Our program provides evidence-based interventions to improve health outcomes for people who inject drugs (PWID) including decreasing accidental death due to overdose; reducing HIV, STI, and HCV infection and transmission rates; improving engagement in care, treatment & adherence. Our mobile and stationary sites provide syringe access & disposal services, health education, counseling, professional & peer support, outreach, linkage, and other community and health improvement-focused services.


The Inventory Associate works under the supervision of the SAS manager and Inventory Team Lead.  

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  •  Inventory Associate:Assisting the Inventory Team Lead in maintaining safe, clean, and well-organized storerooms
  • Ensuring safe storage and disposal of waste
  • Packing mobile sites and outreach bags
  • Loading and unloading vans, maintaining van and resource flyer inventory, and keeping vans clean and fueled
  • Assists with receiving inventory from multiple vendors
  • Assists or works independently to move inventory to supply eight locations: four SFAF Syringe Access Services locations (Storeroom, 1035 Market, and the Harm Reduction Center, Strut),and four Syringe Access Collaborative Partner sites (Glide, St. James Infirmary, SF Drug Users’ Union, and Homeless Youth Alliance). Alerts Inventory Team Lead of needed vehicle maintenance or warehouse safety concerns.

Receiving Inventory/Making Deliveries: Responsible for receiving inventory at all SAS locations, documenting inventory, inventory data entry, supply deliveries to all SAS locations, Syringe Access Collaboration (SAC) program subcontractors, safe waste disposal, garbage and recycling.  

Mobile Site Packing and Van Care: Packs SAS’s mobile sites into outreach vans, keeps vans stocked with back-stock, unloads vans after services, keeps vans well organized and clean, gassed up, and well maintained.

Warehouse safety: This position ensures all warehousing floors are free of ‘slip and trip’ hazards. Conducts safety checks on a regular basis, and ensuring that shelves are stocked safely and floors are always free of stray cords, liquids, boxes, debris, and any other potentially hazardous items. This position follows safe lifting practices, and uses equipment (pallet jack, hand trucks, vans, and carts) carefully and follows the proper operating procedures.

Essential Qualifications:

Good organizational skills, data entry skills, ability to use Google Suite and Microsoft Office programs including Excel.

Supervisory duties: N/A 


Physical Requirements, Work Environments, and Work Schedule: 

Skill in operating office equipment such as a personal computer, copy machine, and telephone system. Ability to lift a minimum of 75 pounds, use a pallet jack, hand truck, carts. Ability to perform bending, stooping, twisting, lifting, standing, and reaching. The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. The full-time position requires work during evenings, weekends and limited holidays.


  • Education and Experience:Proof of valid California driver’s license with excellent driving record required.
  • Experience using a pallet jack, hand truck, and carts and understanding of safe lifting techniques and injury prevention.

Work Location:

This position is located at 1035 Market Street, 117 6th street, Turk Street storeroom, and the position requires work at eight satellite locations, deliveries to ten locations, and daily driving. Off-site meetings as required by the job. This position will have access to protected health information (PHI) and may only access, use or disclose the minimum information necessary to perform their designated role on behalf of San Francisco AIDS Foundation, regardless of the extent of access provided.
