AUPHA (Association of University Programs in Health Administration), a professional healthcare educational association located in downtown Washington, DC, seeks a proactive Certification Manager with keen attention to detail, strong organizational skills, excellent verbal and written communication skills, and a quality-improvement approach to projects.

Since its inception in 1948, AUPHA has supported academic faculty in health administration and healthcare management programs. A full history of AUPHA can be accessed here. Today, AUPHA serves as the voice of academic healthcare management, providing significant benefits to its 252 Full and Associate program members.

Overview of Position:

Under the leadership of the Director of Education and Professional Development, the Certification Manager is responsible for the annual planning, implementation, and coordination of undergraduate certification for candidate programs, initial program certification, and program recertification. The Undergraduate Certification process is similar, though distinct from accreditation at the academic program level and requires excellent project and timeline management.

The Manager establishes and maintains effective working relationships with staff, leaders, Board members, volunteers, and the broad and diverse AUPHA membership while owning and managing tasks related to undergraduate programs. The Manager fosters a collaborative environment across these important stakeholders in order to achieve AUPHA’s strategic goals and objectives as they relate to Undergraduate Certification and Undergraduate Programs.

Specific job duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Timely communication with stakeholders (program representatives, volunteers, Undergraduate Program Committee members, etc.) that provides clear explanations of the process, policies, and procedures for certification; wherever possible, the Certification Manager anticipates questions that may arise and answers them in advance;
  • Tracking and management of all facets of the Undergraduate Certification review process, including, but not limited to:
  • Tracking and notifying programs of their status;
  • Assigning and collecting process fees;
  • Collecting and distributing review materials, including eligibility and self-study documents, as well as draft and final review reports;
  • Following up with stakeholders as needed to ensure timely completion of the process;
  • Scheduling and overseeing review meetings and facilitating team communication;
  • Soliciting, selecting, training, and managing volunteer reviewers.
  • Staffing and managing the Undergraduate Program Committee;
  • Regularly assessing and evaluating the undergraduate certification process, policies, and procedures; utilizing stakeholder feedback to guide improvements to process and outcomes for programs and volunteers;
  • Maintaining AUPHA website pages and other Resources related to UG Certification;
  • Analyzing undergraduate program data from AUPHA’s Annual Survey and drafting sections of the Annual Report based on this data.

Required Experience and Skills:

Minimum of three years’ experience managing or coordinating logistically complicated programs, with preference given to continuing education and professional development programs/services, accreditation, or certification program. Prior experience working for a national association is preferred. A master's degree may be substituted for two years of experience.

The Manager must have demonstrated experience:

  • Proactively managing and owning a large volume of work with complicated timelines;
  • Implementing and managing systems to track all pieces of a project;
  • Taking initiative to ensure all aspects of a project are completed on-target and on-time;
  • Analyzing, interpreting, and translating data into well-written reports for public consumption;
  • Utilizing quantitative and qualitative feedback to spur programmatic and process improvements;
  • Effectively communicating with key stakeholders verbally and in writing.

Other Details:

This is a full-time, regular, exempt position with a 35-hour work week, M-F. Employees typically work 8-4, 8:30-4:30, or 9-5.
