Artists 4 Israel prevents the spread of anti-Israel bigotry and helps heal communities affected by hate.

We are an international network of artists representing 32 countries engaged in acts of social change in Israel, the United States and around the world.

The Four Categories of our Work:

1.    Aid and Advocacy Missions to Israel: To cover the bomb shelters in communities in need with massive works of art, to cover the scars of terror survivors, to provide educational projects for children in low-income communities and otherwise support Israelis in their efforts to peacefully co-exist, provide a forum for world famous artists to see and share thoughts about Israel outside of misinformation directly to their millions of followers.

2.    Our Healing Arts Kits are an emergency, psychological, first-aid kit that slows or, even, stops the onset of new cases of post-traumatic stress disorder in children living under the constant threat of rocket attacks.

 3.    Our Campus Programs are a megaphone for Jewish and pro-Israel groups, helping them share their messages to tens of thousands of students a year, create a positive reputation on campus and build coalitions with their non-Jewish allies.

4.    Our Art Over Hate: Antisemitism programs, like our pro-Israel work 13 years ago, fill large needs and holes in the current efforts to combat antisemitism. Our work eschews “shame and blame” tactics for positive and hopeful efforts, builds upon success and community involvement, utilizes art and creativity and, most importantly, pulls Holocaust education and antisemitism prevention out of museums and textbooks and into the public space through spectacle and show.

 About the Position:

Artists 4 Israel seeks a full-time Development Director. This will be the organization’s first formal development professional which creates a unique, challenging and compelling opportunity.

Unique: The Director will have the opportunity to build the fundraising strategy from their own design (with the input and support of others in the org) without having to fix, adopt or remove preexisting structures.

Challenging: Artists 4 Israel has not focused on fundraising in its past and has a number of programs that do not fit into traditional giving communities. The Director will have to create an internal culture of fundraising, review and improve systems and consider outside the box ideas to achieve their goals.

Compelling: Artists 4 Israel does incredibly important work, has a long history of successes, a wonderful story to tell and a lot of opportunities to raise funds in but also outside the Jewish and Israel community. We also believe that we have “left money on the table” by not taking basic steps to tap into the philanthropic world and, with the right professional, we could take advantage of these ripe opportunities.

While we welcome the strategy created by our eventual hire, we believe that the right candidate should have demonstrated ability in many of the following areas and believe the job duties will entail, in order:

 1.    Reactivating lapsed donors, increasing giving of current donors and setting structures in place for proper donor stewardship going forward.

2.    Grant research, organization and writing. In particular, Director should be creative in finding grant opportunities both in and outside the traditional communities that fund similar organizations.

3.    Family foundation and individual donor research, pitching and stewardship. Identifying foundations and donors by their other giving choices, digging down deeper on those to find like-minded givers and figuring out how to be in touch.

4.    Create a plan for small, educational programs with a fundraising component to large-scale, Gala style events and help bring to fruition.

5.    Newer fundraising types including sponsorships, merchandizing, membership plans and tertiary fundraising through activating partner relationships

The Development Director will be able to direct the organization in what they need in terms of printed materials, social media and other collateral to assist with fundraising efforts.

The Director will be able to lead the CEO in how to utilize his position to assist in fundraising efforts.

Requirements and Qualifications

  • Have raised significant amounts of money through programs of their own design at other organizations.
  • 3 + years management experience.
  • 5+ years experience in the Jewish, Israel or arts world. Ideally a combination thereof.
  • Proficiency with CRM system(s) and related technology (editing, design software a plus).
  • We welcome certificates and training in development.

Soft Skills

  • You’ve read the “Unique, Challenging and Compelling” section above and were excited.
  • Believe in having a “method to the madness”. In other words, not afraid to be creative, work outside of traditional structures and try new things but only when the strategy is sound and well-considered.
  • Willingness to get things done. For instance, you need something designed immediately but we don’t have someone available, do you roll up your sleeves, youtube a brief tutorial and figure out how to make it happen?
  • Not afraid of rejection.
  • Truly find joy in fundraising. Is it like solving a puzzle to you? Is it like making new friends?
  • Have diverse interests and hobbies.

We would like to reiterate that this is a very dynamic position. Please do not apply if you have grown up in the philanthropic community and expect each position to be a carbon copy of the one before or that certain groundwork need to be in place. We are small and scrappy, this is new to us and we did not grow as a nonprofit so our infrastructure has grown second to our programming. In other words, we will be building this together.

We welcome the individual who has never felt fully fulfilled or realized in another role and is seeking to prove their abilities and the rightness of their ideas. You can feel free to be brash and bold, experimental and excited and to want to try new things but please match that with thoughtfulness, strategy and proof that your way can find success
