We are currently searching for an experienced Healthy Relationships Project (HRP) Prevention Specialist. This is a full-time exempt position, with a salary range of $55,000 to $70,000.

Summary Working primarily to raise awareness of the prevalence and impact of child abuse; educates the community about the steps to prevent, recognize and react responsibly to child abuse; and engages people to take action to protect children. Additionally, the incumbent will play a key role in the implementation of a CDC-funded grant to evaluate the efficacy of the Healthy Relationships Program, a series of child sexual abuse prevention programs for children in grades Pre-K through 5th. The incumbent will implement the Healthy Relationships Project curricula in school classrooms, facilitate the training of facilitators, and collect data for grant partners. The incumbent will be required to be trained as a facilitator in various prevention programs and must complete the Human Research Protection Training as part of the grant. This is a full-time, 4-years grant-funded position.  This position is a mandated reporter for child abuse and neglect under District of Columbia Statute § 4-1321.02

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.                  

  • Deliver education and outreach programs, including Stewards of Children®, ACT Raising Safe Kids, and Healthy Relationships Project.
  • Identify and assess prevention programs/curriculums that promote child safety and wellness.
  • Support community-wide prevention and outreach efforts with key stakeholders/organizations
  • Identify champion representatives from each school participating in the Healthy Relationships Project Evaluation Study to participate in stakeholder interviews.
  • Engage community agencies and youth serving organizations around the issue of child sexual abuse prevention to increase their training participation and prevention behaviors.
  • Continue communication with caregivers around Healthy Relationships Project progress and updates
  • Market training opportunities and prevention materials to the community, including the recruitment and retention of 16 DC Public Charter Schools to participate in the Healthy Relationships Project Evaluation Study.
  • Coordinate Healthy Relationships Project Evaluation Study activities including regular meetings with the evaluation research team and serve as the liaison between the research team, caregivers and school partners for the distribution of surveys.
  • Assist with the design and creation of all promotional and prevention materials and media campaigns, working with Safe Shores’ Communications team.
  • Work with other Safe Shores programs to determine and address the needs of Safe Shores’ clients and the community partners.
  • Establish program evaluation tools/procedures and regularly analyze training data to ensure it meets quality performance standards.
  • Attend, train and/or exhibit at local and regional conferences and events.
  • Participate in continuing education related to child abuse prevention and stay current on trends and best practices.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

There are no supervisory responsibilities for this position.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution, preferably in public health, social work, or human development, and a minimum of three (3) years of experience working in social services, victim advocacy, or crisis counseling or master’s degree from an accredited institution in public health, social work, or related disciplines, and a minimum of one (1) year of experience working in social services, victim advocacy, or crisis counseling.
  • Ability to work with caregivers, children, and adolescents.
  • Strong interpersonal skills; public speaking skills, high level of cultural competence and humility.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail and ability to work independently.
  • Ability to successfully pass Child Protection Registry clearance and criminal background check.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience working within communities, in a Children’s Advocacy Center setting, a public health setting, or a teaching/childcare setting.
  • Familiarity with and a disposition toward the Multi-Disciplinary Team (MDT) approach to the investigation and prosecution of child abuse cases.
  • Knowledge of social and legal systems in the District of Columbia.
  • Ability to facilitate research, collect, and analyze data that can be used to effectively review and evaluate the implementation of prevention program initiatives.

COMPUTER/TECHNOLOGY SKILLS                                                                                                                 

High level of comfort with technology and proficiency with MS Office applications and the internet.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to touch or feel a computer, keyboard, monitor, telephone, Smart Phone, and talk or hear when interacting with employees. The employee is frequently required to stand; walk and sit. The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms. The employee may regularly lift and /or move 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
