Job Location: Remote - US

Status: Full-time, Non-Exempt

Reports to: Communications Coordinator

Salary: Varies based on geography, ranges from $35,600-$56,000

About PSN & the Social Media Lead Role

Power Shift Network is a decentralized network made up of 100+ organizations committed to growing the power of the Youth Climate Movement. PSN is in a significant and exciting growth period as we continue to ground our work in resourcing, convening, and connecting youth leaders with the money, training, mentorship and introductions that they need to be able to leverage powerful ideas into powerful action towards climate justice. 

Our new Social Media Lead will be stepping into a tight knit team of 11, and will bring a keen sense of storytelling to our public facing work, from amplifying our Network Member’s campaigns to supporting fundraising campaigns to grounding our visual branding to supporting recruitment efforts for our Power Shift 2023 convergence. Our ideal candidate will be a self-starting people person, with a background in communications with some strong graphic design chops. Ideally, they will have a strong interest in building diversified income streams to build resilient organizations and will have some familiarity with social movement theory as well as the issues related to and intersecting with climate change and environmental justice. 

PSN is deeply committed to the struggle to combat adultism, white supremacy, anti-Blackness, colonialism, patriarchy, cissexism, and all other systems of oppression. 


Social Media Storytelling - 70% 

  • Serve as lead visual content creator for the organization, working on graphic design and light video production in alignment with org branding and messaging
  • Develop— in collaboration with Communication Coordinator and other staff— and implement social media and video storytelling strategy and growth plan 
  • Lead on developing content series to highlight Member Organization’s work and provide political education for followers
  • Work closely with organizers and network weaving staff to identify which Network Member Orgs to amplify and develop strategies for that amplification work
  • Draft rapid response content and work with Communications Coordinator to match storytelling to email content 

Network Engagement & External Communications - 20%

  • Support with moderating and cultivating conversations on social media (TikTok, Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, YouTube) 
  • Manage amplification requests from Network Members
  • Join coalition calls to support social media amplification needs from organizations we’re building community with  
  • Work with staff to develop and execute digital communications orientation documents (social media norms, social media outreach plan, toolkits and style guides for projects)
  • Track social media data and engagement and make strategy changes accordingly 

Administrative Support - 10% 

  • Update social media content on website 
  • Organize digital content Google Drive folders 
  • Maintain social media calendar on a daily basis 
  • Maintain analytics data for PSN digital platforms 

The right person will have: 

  • Strong graphic and video production skill set 
  • Some experience managing a team and project with lots of moving pieces 
  • Good writing skills 
  • Grounded political analysis 
  • Very organized and good at staying on top of scheduling and deadlines 
  • Someone who’s a team player (collaborates with staff and good internal communication skills)
  • Strong relationship building skills


KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS: 

  • Familiarity with some or all of the following: Canva, Sprout Social, Google Suite, Slack, Google Groups, Social Media platforms, Drupal
  • Experience copy editing & proofreading
  • Strong graphic design skills 
  • Strong written communication skills including writing concise social media copy
  • Ability to weave compelling stories while creating a sense of urgency
  • Experience with developing a social media strategy and growth plan 
  • Ability to build relationships with influencers and organizers for partnerships 
  • Ability to weave inclusivity and accessibility to every piece of content
