Salary Range:  $60,000 - $80,000 

Location: Remote 

Status: Full-time; Exempt 

Reports to: National Community Engagement Director

The UndocuBlack Network (UBN) is a multigenerational community of currently and formerly undocumented Black individuals dedicated to fostering empowerment, providing access to resources, and transforming the lives of our people to thrive and live fulfilling lives. We achieve this by developing leadership through training and programming, building community power through advocacy and organizing, and prioritizing humanity, dignity, and well-being in all aspects of our work.

POSITION OVERVIEW

The Community Engagement Organizer (“Organizer”) is a full-time position on the UndocuBlack Network’s Staff Team. The Organizer is generally responsible for organizing membership programming, coordinating rapid response efforts and convenings, identifying and developing member leaders, and cultivating our presence in key cities through consistent recruitment and outreach.

This is an exempt, full-time (40 hours per week), fully benefits-eligible position, either working out of UBN’s Washington, DC office or remotely and reporting directly to the National Community Engagement Director. 

RESPONSIBILITIES AND PRIORITIES

  • In collaboration with the Director of Organizing, develop and implement membership growth and retention strategies 
  • Build programming to engage membership and maintain our growing base 
  • Be the liaison between the National Team and community members to inform and shape initiatives and programming. Work cohesively with team members to support organizational output and progress in alignment with organizational mission and goals 
  • Participate in report feedback and discussion with the Directors and other team members.

Membership Engagement, Recruitment & Integration 

  • Alongside the Director of Organizing, serve as primary contact for UBN members and supporters
  • Maintain and coordinate delivery of welcome and constituent onboarding materials 
  • Coordinate and increase the effectiveness of information technologies and database systems to document, track, and maintain membership databases (for e.g, EveryAction, NationBuilder, RingCentral)
  • Identify and create constituent engagement opportunities for UBN’s grassroots advocacy campaigns 
  • Create and maintain a consistent outreach plan to maintain and grow our constituency
  • Host monthly constituent spaces to engage members and listen to community needs; this includes virtual gatherings and in-person community events in key cities
  • Along with the Director of Organizing, plan and execute special membership events (such as conferences, mobilizations, panels and other community engagement proposals) 
  • Collaborate with the UBN National team on the development and facilitation of trainings and leadership development opportunities for members and supporters
  • Serve as the liaison between community members and the UBN national team for incoming community requests; manage rapid response efforts to provide support for members as they arise
  • Managing project budgets, budget review, writing reports, assisting in review of budget amendments. Ensuring that all fiscal records and reports pertaining to the organizing program are completed within the required time frame

EXPERIENCE AND ABILITIES 

  • 3-5 years of community organizing experience and has at least 3 years of experience working with Black immigrant communities
  • Personal alignment with the UndocuBlack Network mission required
  • Must be organized and detail-oriented
  • Willingness to work on evenings and weekends when required  
  • Must be comfortable traveling out of state an average of 5-7 working days a month
  • Proficiency with Google Suite, Zoom, Microsoft Office
  • Fluency in Spanish, French, Creole, Somali, Arabic, Swahili, Tigrinya, Amharic, or Arabic is a plus.
  • Demonstrated success and examples in the following are required:
  • Deep commitment to relationship building with members, national team members, and partners 
  • Ability to facilitate conversation and learning experiences for others at different levels of understanding and experience 
  • Problem-solving and strategic thinking in a fast-paced environment. 
  • Excellent project and time management skills
  • Experience coaching and supporting others in professional learning and growth

Mental and physical demands

  • Fast-paced work environment.
  • A high level of concentration and attention to detail required.
  • Ability to lift up to 20 pounds is required.

TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS

All UBN team members must also be able to attend work-related in-person meetings and functions as needed. We gather for moments that matter for training, teaming, and connection. Our teams come together for occasional in-person meetings and organizational retreats. As part of our hybrid work practices, this travel expectation will be applicable to all UBN team members, even those based remotely.

This role will require up to 25% travel, including organizational wellness retreats and team/department meetings.

HIRING RANGE

The hiring range for this role is $60,000 to $80,000. Final offers for this position will be based upon several factors including the scope of the role, market compensation analysis, position requirements, candidate’s experience level and capabilities, specific candidate geographic location, internal pay equity considerations, and will be made within the parameters of UBN's compensation framework and philosophy.
