Location: Hybrid; Must be located in New England and able to travel to Boston regularly

Hours: Full-time, 4-day work week + some nights and weekends

Pay: $62,000 / year

Reports to:  Deputy Director

Anticipated Start: Early September 2024

This position requires flexibility, strong communication skills, and an organized work style. We are looking for someone who has experience (personal and/or professional) with trans, nonbinary, and gender expansive communities. An experienced, hands-on professional will be responsible for developing and implementing MTPC’s policy, advocacy, and organizing initiatives. 

This role will primarily focus on policy, advocacy, and organizing that allows MTPC to deliver on our agreed streams of work as articulated in our strategic plan. MTPC is committed to the professional development of our team members. This position will include access to workshops, seminars, and other professional development opportunities. 

Responsibilities

  • Develop and manage MTPC’s policy, advocacy, and organizing campaigns and strategies
  • Lead MTPC’s participation in external working groups, coalitions, and other efforts to align with partner organizations, community leaders, and others on policy solutions and advocacy strategies.
  • Manage and facilitate the Massachusetts Trans Health Coalition (MTHC).
  • Provide research, analysis, and draft responses to a range of issues impacting the community MTPC serves. 
  • Produce high-quality policy documents (e.g., policy statements, articles, testimony, memos of support or opposition, etc.).
  • Collaborate with other MTPC staff to provide support for organizations, businesses, schools, and state and local agencies in developing and implementing inclusive policies and compassionate practices; educate elected officials, government staff, and other decision-makers on MTPC’s priorities.
  • Build and maintain trusted, respectful relationships with community members, partners, local coalitions, elected officials, and other decision-makers.
  • Identify, monitor, and analyze state and federal legislation, and emerging policy priorities that impact trans communities. 
  • Attend hearings, workgroups, and other meetings as needed.
  • Organize community actions and coordinate testimony, legislative visits, and workgroup meetings.
  • Plan and participate in events as needed to enhance education on key issues and MTPC advocacy efforts.
  • Assist with recruitment, hiring, training, supervision, and management of staff, consultants, facilitators, and volunteers/interns.

Qualities, Experience, Strengths, and Skills 

Essential

  • Comprehensive understanding of the landscape of trans, nonbinary, and gender expansive identities, rights, and advocacy. 
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong administrative skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to interact effectively, influence, and advocate for MTPC’s work to a wide variety of constituencies. 
  • Capable of both a high degree of independence and a team approach to work responsibilities.
  • Ability to meet deadlines and be flexible.
  • Demonstrated strategic thinking skills and willingness to learn about and analyze new and/or complex issues
  • Have a passion for social change/social justice and commitment to the mission of MTPC.

Desired 

  • Experience working for trans rights or other social justice movements.
  • Experience with state and/or federal legislative process
  • Experience with working in or coordinating coalitions
  • Proficient in writing proposals and reports.
