HANA Center (HANA) is a Chicago-area non-profit organization working to meet the critical needs of Korean, Asian American, and multiethnic immigrant communities and build power toward systemic change. HANA Center has offices in Chicago and Prospect Heights, Illinois.

 

In partnership with the Executive Director, Deputy Director, and Development Associate, the Development and Communications Manager is responsible for developing and executing fundraising and communication programs to secure support from individuals, corporations, foundations, and organizations. 


Major Responsibilities

Fund Development

  • Work with HANA Center’s Board, Executive Director, and staff to identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward current and prospective donors
  • Manage current grant funders and conduct prospect research and outreach to identify and engage with potential grant funders
  • Draft and submit grant proposals for operational support and program funds
  • Draft appeal letters and other fundraising- and marketing-related publications
  • Identify new corporate partners and coordinate efforts to expand corporate relationships
  • Manage Development Associate coordinating HANA’s annual MODU Gala, Storytelling Fundraiser, and other donor stewardship and cultivation events 
  • Oversee donor data management, ensuring data entry is accurate and comprehensive and that acknowledgement letters are sent within a 48-hour window

Communications

Work with Development Associate to:

  • Prepare and implement a communications and marketing plan that incorporates social media, online tools, paid and earned media, direct mail, and additional ways to increase public awareness about HANA 
  • Maintain a visually appealing and user-friendly website, social media accounts (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter), and monthly e-newsletters that promote HANA’s programs and events
  • Collaborate with staff on uplifting community leaders, volunteer activities and achievements, and organizational highlights
  • Draft and send out press advisories and press releases and serve as HANA’s media contact
  • Outreach to media contacts to secure earned media opportunities
  • Produce an annual report at the conclusion of each fiscal year

Additional

  • Supervise Development Associate
  • Attend and participate in board meetings, community meetings, and other activities as needed
  • Participate and support other organizational priorities as needed

  

Key Qualifications:

  • Commitment to immigrant rights and social, economic, and racial justice
  • A belief in communities’ ability to support each other, organize, and achieve desired goals together
  • Minimum 3 years of fundraising and/or communications work experience
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to manage multiple projects with attention to detail, accuracy, and proven track record of meeting deadlines
  • Proficiency in using technology and systems to maximize efficiency and impact
  • Skilled in strategically utilizing social media tools including Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, and LinkedIn
  • Ability to build partnerships and gain consensus with co-workers, volunteer leaders, and peers
  • Ability to take initiative, work independently, think creatively, and problem solve with a commitment to continued learning
  • Ability to work some evenings and weekends as needed
  • Preferred experience working on Korean American, Asian American, immigrant community issues and/or social, economic and racial justice issues; experience working with community members through service, education, organizing and/or advocacy; and demonstrated track record of working collaboratively in local partnerships and/or with multi-ethnic or multi-sector communities
  • A valid driver’s license, car, and car insurance
  • Bilingual in Korean and English languages, both verbal and written, is an asset
  • Proficiency in using design tools such as Canva and Adobe Creative Suite is an asset


Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to lift and move objects weighing up to 50 pounds for short distances when necessary


Reports to: Executive Director 


Compensation:

This is a full-time, exempt position with a salary range of $55,000-$65,000. HANA offers a full benefits package that includes paid time off, health, dental, vision, short-term disability, long-term disability, life, and 401k.
