Children's Law Center is currently operating remotely. This position will work from home until the organization returns to the office.

Job Summary

The Online Communications Manager writes powerful stories and content to achieve fundraising goals and raise awareness of Children’s Law Center among current and potential donors and philanthropic partners. The Manager oversees the communications team’s content calendar and leads strategies for how to distribute content across the organization’s website, social media and email newsletters. The Manager will work closely with the development team to use new digital media strategies to achieve fundraising goals. 

Duties/Responsibilities

  • Write and produce stories that showcase the children and families Children’s Law Center works with and our impact in achieving legal and systemic changes. This includes interviewing families in-person and over the phone/Zoom, drafting and revising stories in partnership with the communications director, development team and executive director, developing video storyboards, and managing video creation of client stories or events. 
  • Oversee team’s content calendar and work with Communications Specialist and Senior Communications Manager to implement social media and email campaigns with focus on achieving fundraising goals. This includes creating original content, cultivating relevant influencers such as law firms and corporate partners and executing campaigns across Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn and YouTube as well as planning for and creating paid social media ad campaigns. 
  • Draft twice-monthly emails that highlight our impact in support of DC children and families. 
  • Provide general website maintenance, including updating and creating webpages and working closely with fundraising team to assess interactions between our website and DonorPerfect, ADP, intake form and other systems. 
  • Manage in-house graphic and video production for various communications and marketing efforts while maintaining and exploring best practices for digital content performance. 
  • Help design and implement fundraising campaigns, including our annual Helping Children Soar benefit and end of year fundraising campaigns. 
  • Ensure growth for CLC’s social media channels by creating an innovative strategy to update, enhance and continually improve our current properties in partnership with Senior Communications Manager. 
  • Work with evaluation and learning team to cross-check for data points to show our outcomes work. 

Skills/Abilities

  • Experience telling sensitive, complex and personal stories in a respectful, strength-based and ethical manner. 
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills including experience writing for donor audiences. 
  • Ability to distill complex issues into effective online materials for diverse target audiences. 
  • Possesses well-developed diplomacy skills including the ability to work effectively with humility and positivity, with all members of the CLC team. Ability to communicate positively, clearly and effectively with internal stakeholder teams, external vendors and efficiently manage and problem solve any challenges that arise. 
  • Strong knowledge of and experience with social media platforms (Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, YouTube) and the emerging trends with content and engagement across these platforms. 
  • Experience working with WordPress and Constant Contact or other similar website CMS and email distribution systems. 
  • Familiarity with how to segment audiences for targeted email campaigns. 
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point, and photo editing software (Photoshop or Canva). Basic design and video editing skills a big plus. 
  • High energy, flexible, self-motivated, and the ability to work professionally with staff at all levels of the organization, in person and remotely. 
  • Demonstrated ability to exercise good judgment, and strong attention to detail. 
  • Highly organized, detail-oriented, and able to manage a variety of projects in a fast-paced environment. 
  • Previous experience living and/or working in and with communities dealing with issues of poverty preferred.  
  • Familiarity with non-profit organizations and a commitment to improving the lives of DC kids and families preferred. 

Education and Experience

  • At least 5 years of marketing or communications experience, specifically experience working with nonprofit fundraising teams or writing stories for fundraising audiences preferred. 
  • Bachelor's degree required with focus in marketing, communications, nonprofit management.

The salary for this position ranges from $56,600- $84,800 annually depending on experience. Children’s Law Center offers a generous benefits package that includes medical, dental, vision, and short- and long-term disability insurance; employer-provided retirement contributions; flexible spending plans; and vacation, sick, holiday, family and medical leave.
