Movement Journalism Workshop Coordinator (Based in South/Remote)

Press On Media is searching for a part time temporary contractor to coordinate and facilitate movement journalism workshops and lunch and learns.

Contract: Movement Journalism Workshop Coordination and Facilitator

Beginning of Project: August 15, 2022

End of Project: December 31, 2022

Location: Remote in the U.S. South (FL, SC, NC, VA, WV, KY, TN, AL, MS, GA, LA, TX, OK, AR, Puerto Rico)

Submission Requirements:

Please answer this survey by July 17, 2022 and submit a resume detailing program management expertise, facilitation expertise, expertise in movement journalism. 

Project Goals:

The Movement Journalism Workshop Coordinator and Facilitator will lead the work of identifying and training movement journalists and movement organizations across the South.  

Expected Tasks:

• Coordinate 2 donation based trainings that will take place remotely on evenings or weekends
• September  Movement Journalism 101 for organizers
• October Movement Journalism 101 for journalists
• Coordinate  and promote 3 monthly Lunch and Learns-political education networking sessions-based on evaluation data provided and/or emergent shifts in the political landscape
• September

• Recruit at least 15 participants per session; some participants may be eligible for stipends to participate
• Help coordinate paperwork with Press On operations staff  
• Coordinate registration and create an intentional cohort for all sessions
• Identify participant’s access needs and work with Press On ops staff to meet those needs if possible (may include live captioning, ASL, Spanish interpretation, etc.)
• Identify and recruit co-trainers 
• Help Coordinate paperwork with Press On operations staff 
• Submit monthly invoice with descriptions of hours worked and tasks accomplished
• Host a monthly check in meeting with the Press On Team
•  Produce a report to summarize programming and suggested next steps

Qualifications:

• A skilled facilitator and convener
• An experienced movement  journalist who exudes Press On’s mission and values
• Familiar with the landscape of Southern media and journalism, or willing and excited to quickly learn
• In relationship with Southern organizers and leaders, locally or regionally
• Living in the U.S. South and connected to social justice movements in this region. 
• Creative and flexible
• A movement builder and organizer with a record of collaborative leadership in Southern movement organizations and projects
• An excellent communicator who specializes in connecting people and building networks
• A highly organized and collaborative approach
• Interested in disability justice and creating accessible virtual spaces
• Independent, Responsible, has initiative and is a great communicator
