Innovation: Africa (iA) is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization is a team of dedicated problem solvers with a mission to bring solutions and know-how to those in need living in rural African villages. We use solar energy to pump clean water and provide schools, orphanages and medical clinics with light and refrigeration to store vaccines and medicines. IA has completed over 500 solar and agricultural projects, providing light, clean water, food and proper medical care to nearly 3 million people in Ethiopia, Tanzania, Malawi, South Africa, Uganda, Cameroon, Senegal and the Democratic Republic of Congo.
We are looking for a legal advisor to be responsible for providing the organization with legal assistance and advice in regard to all legal matters that arise between any and all iA countries of operation in Israel, the United States and Africa. The responsibilities of a legal advisor include, but not limited to, drafting legal documents, structuring solutions for issues, and providing support in legal issues such as company registration, HR matters and contractual agreements with contractors.
The legal advisor should possess excellent analytical, research and writing skills in English, the ability to make good judgments, and be able to work well within a team. Ultimately, a top-notch legal advisor should have strong communication skills, be able to manage a large workload with a tight deadline and remain up to date with laws.
CEO & CFO
o As a Legal Counsel, you’ll support Innovation: Africa’s projects in Israel and across Africa in all legal matters.
o You will provide day-to-day legal support to our teams, and work closely with global stakeholders such as accountants, lawyers, Board members, contractors and employees from all countries of operation.
o You will analyze complicated legal challenges, “translate” their implications to non-legal stakeholders and work through practical solutions.
o You will consider and advise on regulatory requirements.
o You will proactively identify and develop legal solutions and improvement possibilities, as well as help design and implement policies and processes to build and scale the legal function.
o You will follow legal and regulatory developments and advise the team on new and emerging legal issues.
o You’ll help us improve our existing contract processes and templates with our contractors, donors, employees and other partners in Israel and across Africa.
o You will manage litigations, as they arise (using outside counsel, as needed)
o You will help with country NGO registrations and Board of Directors meetings and reporting
o 5+ years of experience practicing international law at a law firm and in-house in handling regulatory matters, preferably in the NGO sphere. Experience working in African countries preferred.
o A qualified lawyer in Israel with strong academic achievements. An LL.M. degree is a plus (especially if from Europe or the US).
o Generalist skills with strong expertise in international legal matters and solid experience in providing advice regarding several of the following: agreements, subcontractor contracts, data protection and privacy, general contract law, payments, employment law and corporate.
o A solutions-driven can-do attitude is an absolute must.
o Experience in working in close cooperation with internal and external legal teams and working on multiple tasks at the same time.
o Ability to effectively weigh risks and payoffs in a number of scenarios.
o Good interpersonal and communication skills.
o Quick thinking and the type of person who rolls up their sleeves and gets to work, no matter the task.
o Fluent in English and Hebrew.
o Willingness to travel.

This job requires intermediate travel to the countries of operation.
As an international organization, our team is spread out between NY, Israel and Africa, and team members are constantly on the move.
