Girl Scouts Nation’s Capital is the largest Girl Scout council in the country. It provides girls in grades K-12 with opportunities to learn new skills, make friends, and discover the power of girls together. We’re the preeminent leadership development organization for girls.

An Excellent Opportunity

We are searching for an outstanding Controller to lead the 4-person Finance department in the monthly and annual financial statements. The Controller also prepares and reports on the council’s annual operating budgets. The right candidate will have experience in managing audits, to oversee the annual audit, 403(b) audit, and 990 activities.

Here’s What You Will Be Doing

  • Maintain and produce financial reports, records, and statements
  • Planning, directing and coordinating all accounting operational functions, including month-end closings
  • Plan and manage annual financial and retirement plan audits from start to finish
  • Collaborate with fellow staff department heads to coordinate projects and workflow
  • Prepare monthly net asset and grant revenue reconciliations
  • Create monthly financial statements
  • Work with department managers to plan and purchase capital assets
  • Assist CFO with cash forecasting and financial presentations for Board of Directors
  • Hire, supervise, manage, and direct the work of Finance & Accounting Specialist, Revenue Operations Specialist, and General Ledger Accountant

Is this you?

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA)
  • Nonprofit accounting experience would be very helpful (but not a must)
  • Self-motivated, efficient, independent on short- and long-term tasks
  • Driven to find ways to make systems and processes more effective and efficient
  • Great written and oral communication skills, including explaining financial concepts to non-financial minds
  • Highly proficient in Excel and other Microsoft Office programs
  • A wiz with advanced spreadsheets and financial software, a big plus!
  • Experience supervising and appropriately delegating to professional staff
  • Can effectively prioritize and execute multiple projects
  • Creative problem-solver
  • Detail-oriented and well-organized
  • Strong analytical skills
