Position Summary

The Math teacher (Middle School) will support students in the development of mathematical skills and application by designing plans that address the various levels of Math ability in the school. In this position, Middle School refers to grades 5 to 8 (5o Primaria to 2o Basico). Because students take English-language international exams, the successful candidate must have a strong command of English.

Responsibilities

• Develop lesson plans and units that address and strengthen all facets of mathematical processes.
• Research and develop resources that strengthen curricular objectives. 
• Collaborate with teaching colleagues to develop teaching strategies and interventions in a bilingual environment.
• Evaluate student progress using progressive and alternative assessment methods.
• Prepare students with the skills and competencies for success in international exams.
• Communicate with students, parents, teachers, counselors, and administration regarding underperformance and other concerns.
• Assess student needs and provide support or extra resources to struggling students as well as exceptional achievers.
• Maintain accurate records of student progress and report results as required.
• Demonstrate respectful and confident classroom management skills.

Expectations

• Become proficient in the Cambridge International curriculum and the Guatemalan national standards.
• Confidently communicate and lead classes in English (bilingual English-Spanish ability is a strong advantage)
• Actively participate in at least one school committee.
• Attend school and staff meetings.
• Collaborate with the teaching team to support homeroom duties.
• Fulfill supervision duties as scheduled.
• Reinforce school policies and culture.
• Commit to professional development opportunities.

Salary and Benefits

• Salary negotiated based on experience and qualifications, up to $1,000 (USD) per month, paid over 12 months (please note that Guatemalan citizens are eligible for planilla, with all benefits under Guatemalan labor law; salary will accordingly reflect these benefits).
• Optional co-pay private health insurance.
• 5 weeks paid vacation + paid holidays.
• 8 paid visa run days for international teachers.
