Religious School Director for Jewish Community

Congregation Nevei Kodesh is a multi-generational Jewish Renewal community located in Boulder CO. Our vibrant Religious School currently serves approximately 25 students through Bar/Bat Mitzvah age. In addition to our paid teachers, the school is supported by parent volunteers and past graduates. All are part time, working together in a cooperative and creative environment, and motivated to provide our children with an uplifting and inspiring Jewish learning experience.

Our ideal candidate will resonate with and develop a school culture consistent with our community’s essence - heartfelt transformational Judaism. You will align your gifts to educate our children, operate the religious school and support family programming. This is a flexible, half-time, non-exempt position oriented around the Jewish holiday and school calendars. 

OVERALL RESPONSIBILITIES

• Oversee the Religious School: teacher supervision and coaching, payroll, curriculum development, behavior management systems, volunteer management.
• Create and implement family holiday and Shabbat programs and services.
• Work with B’nai mitzvah students on mitzvah projects.
• Promote and grow the Religious School.
• Collaborate with the Rabbi and various committees.

TIME COMMITMENTS

• The Religious School consists of integrated learning environments, in the classroom, in family services, and in holiday events from October through May.
• The director will be on site when the religious school meets 
• In a classroom setting for 16-18 Sundays and 23 Tuesdays
• For family services for 3 Saturdays and 4 Fridays 
• Engaged with 4 family holidays: Sukkot, Simchat Torah, Hanukkah, and Purim
• Religious school staff meetings - one per semester
• Board of Director meetings - monthly
• Nevei Kodesh staff meetings - every other week
• Jewish community events and professional development opportunities

NECESSARY SKILLS AND ATTRIBUTES

• Previous education and leadership experience required
• Ability to create a safe and engaging work environment 
• Knowledge of Judaism appropriate to position
• Fluent English speaker with a working knowledge of religious Hebrew
• Strong organizational, collaborative, and communication skills
• Professional writing ability and computer literacy
• Detail orientation while tending to the big picture
• Tracking and staying within operating budget
• Experiential education orientation

SALARY AND BENEFITS

• Pay: Monthly salary is based on an expected 12-month salary of $32,500 and the position is nonexempt. Any hours over 40 in any given week, though highly unanticipated, will be calculated for overtime. 
• This highly flexible and fluid position comes with 87 hours of paid time off. Time off is preferred to be at times other than when the students are in session.
