Position Summary: As a member of the Communications team and reporting to the Assistant Director of Communications, the Social Media Intern assists and executes Prep for Prep’s social media strategies. The position plays a central role in supporting the execution of a comprehensive communications plan.


This is a paid internship with responsibilities including but not limited to these primary areas:


  • Collaborate with Prep for Prep’s other departments to provide Prep’s audiences with a nuanced view into the Prep for Prep experience and programming
  • Under the guidance of the Assistant Director of Communications, design and develop written and visual content for Prep’s social media channels
  • Monitor comments and messages on all social platforms and ensure that questions are addressed in a timely manner and routed through the proper channels
  • Develop a social media schedule with consideration of audience engagement metrics and larger organization goals
  • Keep abreast of the latest social media trends and best practices
  • Attend program events, photo shoots, and video shoots to assist in providing in-house photography needs and production assistance for content creation
  • Interview members of the Prep for Prep community and develop engaging stories and content for Prep social media 


Skills, Experience, Competencies:

  • Excellent attention to detail and proof-reading skills
  • Strong writing skills with the ability to adapt content to different audiences
  • Functional knowledge of Canva, Adobe PhotoShop, or similar design editing software
  • Experience with social media platforms such as Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, and TikTok.
  • Familiarity with social media management tools such as Hootsuite or Tweetdeck
  • Knowledge of/experience with video editing software
  • Adept use of Microsoft Office Suite/Adobe software (Powerpoint, Excel, Word, Adobe Acrobat X)
  • Ability to work collaboratively and independently and within a team in a fast-paced, high-expectation environment
  • Exercise discretion and good judgement in handling confidential information and in alignment with the organization’s objectives
  • Possess cultural competencies working with diverse constituents, including alumni, donors, trustees, program participants, and other stakeholders
  • Reading and writing proficiency in Spanish or Chinese is a plus
