    The National Humanities Alliance (NHA) is a nationwide coalition of organizations advocating for the humanities on campuses, in communities, and on Capitol Hill. Founded in 1981, NHA is supported by over 250 member organizations, including colleges, universities, libraries, museums, cultural organizations, state humanities councils, and scholarly, professional, and higher education associations. It is the only organization that brings together the U.S. humanities community as a whole.

    Reporting Structure: The Project Assistant reports to the Operations and Events Manager.

    Time frame: Approximately 20 hours per week for approximately five weeks leading up to NHA’s annual conference, to begin immediately. Applicants must be available in person in Washington, D.C., all day on March 10th and 11th.

    Job Classification: Non-Exempt

    Location: Employee must be located in the Washington D.C. Metro Area. Work will be conducted remotely in the lead-up to the event but on-site during the two event days.

    Essential Functions:

    • Schedule congressional meetings for humanities advocates.
    • Assist with the development of advocacy resources
    • Assist with the administrative duties of the organization
    • Assist with the production of an annual event
    • Additional responsibilities as assigned by the Operations and Events Manager

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • Bachelor’s degree with a major or minor in a humanities or humanistic social science discipline
    • Work experience in settings such as post-secondary institutions, museums, libraries, humanities councils, or government
    • Interest in working in an advocacy organization
    • Project experience; a good ability to choose among alternatives and identify key priorities for work
    • Excellent writing, interpersonal, and organizational skills
