    Descrição

Scarecrow Video seeks a Development Director to plan, direct and grow its fundraising efforts. Scarecrow Video is a non-profit dedicated to the stewardship of the world’s largest video library of 148,000+ titles. The unique collection represents the deep wells of our cultural history —spanning over 129 years of film history and representing 138 countries and over 126 different languages—a collection that is unparalleled in its diversity, scope, and accessibility. We proudly use this collection for meaningful community outreach programs like Silver Screeners (which delivers film events and social opportunities directly to seniors), Children’s Hour (which combines traditional story time with clips from the collection, science experiments, and arts activities that all center on themes of diversity and inclusion), online virtual events, and our annual outdoor movie series.

The Development Director position offers an excellent opportunity for a development professional interested in assuming a leadership role, and with a desire to build significant capacity in a small (~$1 million annual budget) organization. The ideal candidate will have deep roots in the community, be willing to actively invest in this growing development program and help guide the organization to its fullest potential.

    Responsibilities:

Reporting to the Executive Director and the Board of Directors, the Development Director is a full-time position charged with overseeing and growing Scarecrow Video’s contributed income program. The program secures gifts through membership, donations, and grants, with a need to significantly grow support through major gifts and sponsorships.

High-level responsibilities include engaging with the Board of Directors and Executive Director to examine current revenue strategies, and developing a 3-5 year fundraising plan that supports Scarecrow’s mission fulfillment. More specifically, responsibilities include developing and implementing:

    • New strategies for expanding the individual giving program including designing, planning, and coordinating annual appeals and stewardship events.
    • A major gifts program that would include identifying, cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding individuals capable of donating $10,000+.
    • A fresh approach to corporate sponsorships and foundation and government grants.
    • An annual fundraiser, the fundraising component of International Video Store Day, and our end of year campaign.

    Day-to-day duties include:

    • Oversee the management of relationships and communications with donors, members, and strategic partners.
    • Manage and mentor a part-time Development Assistant.
    • Participate in marketing endeavors to ensure consistency of messaging.
    • Participate in other outreach programs and special events as necessary.

    Qualifications:

    • Minimum five years, broad-based fund development experience to include:
      • Leading fundraising campaigns that met or exceeded budgeted expectations.
      • Successful grant writing.
      • Developing and sustaining successful relationships with major donors and corporate executives.
      • Experience with non-profit CRM or similar software. (We currently use NEON CRM but are open to change.)
    • Bachelor’s Degree or higher education preferred.
    • Prior experience organizing and executing major events is extremely helpful.
    • A love of film and storytelling and ability to be passionate for its preservation through physical media
    • Strong collaboration skills.
    • Outstanding communication skills, both verbal and written.
    • Excellent organizational skills with ability to manage short term and long-term plans and goals.
    • Proficient and experienced with Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, Access and Outlook.
    • Knowledge of Seattle donor base and philanthropic community.
    • Experience in a small and/or fledgling non-profit environment is extremely helpful.
    • Ability to adapt successfully to multiple tasks that occur in a rapidly changing environment.
    • Highly energetic and self-motivated; ability to work as an individual or as a team.
    • Coronavirus/COVID-19: As a condition of working on Scarecrow’s premises, all employees must be fully vaccinated and be willing to wear a mask when it’s collectively necessary.
    • Applicants must be willing to pass a background check before hire.
