The Opportunity

CEO is currently seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Contract Associate to manage the contracting process for the organization, including review, negotiation, and record maintenance for contracts, including grants, awards, agreements, leases, and other contractual documents.  In addition, the Contract Associate will work closely with the program and finance teams to create accurate and timely reporting and funds flows.  The Contract Associate will also assist with monitoring compliance of contractual terms and requirements.  

The Contract Associate will serve as a member of CEO’s legal and compliance team and will report to the Assistant General Counsel.

Who We Are

The Center for Employment Opportunities (CEO) provides employment services to people with recent criminal convictions. Across the United States, over 6,000 people participate in CEO each year, transitioning to employment that supports themselves, their families, and their communities.

What began as a demonstration project of the Vera Institute of Justice in the 1970s to address employment barriers facing the formerly incarcerated following release in New York City has grown into the leading reentry employment organization in the country, where over 25,000 formerly incarcerated individuals have secured full-time employment since 1996. In 2016, CEO embarked on a 5-year strategic plan to grow to serve 9,000 participants annually.

Who You Are

  • You have experience working in a role which involved review of contracts or grants, preferably in a nonprofit setting with a variety of funding streams
  • You have experience with government contracts desirable

The Contract Associate will be responsible for the following activities, among other things: 

  • Reviewing and negotiating contracts provided by third parties on behalf of the organization, including but not limited to government contracts, grant awards, work crew contracts, and some commercial contracts
  • Maintaining a database of templates for new contract generation, producing draft contracts in collaboration with colleagues, negotiating terms, and following up and finalizing agreements 
  • Assisting with the submission of documentation required under contracts and to satisfy regulatory requirements
  • Maintaining contract database in Agiloft, CEO’s contract management system 
  • Collaborating with internal departments and external grantor staff on matters related to active contracts, including submission of supporting reports, compliance with terms, and other related matters
  • Assist with training CEO staff in the use of Agiloft and compliance with relevant contracts
  • Developing and executing processes for contract drafting and monitoring compliance in multiple jurisdictions
  • Collaborating with and supporting Compliance Team and other Legal & Compliance team members on projects that may arise relating to contracts
  • Work with L&C team on advising staff on interpretation of contracts, including but not limited to termination provisions 
  • Work on special projects with L&C team members
  • Drafting certificates, notices and related documents required to comply with or terminate contracts
  • Other matters as assigned from time to time

Compensation and Benefits  

The salary range for this position is $$47,500-56,500/annually. CEO's compensation philosophy considers a variety of factors including experience, internal equity, and the labor market associated with the city in which the position is located. The labor markets associated with the cities in which CEO is based are variable, and the salary range included here reflects this. Our salary offer will fall within this range and will be reflective of the labor market of the city in which the position is based, as well as the other factors named above.
