BAGLY is a youth-led, adult-supported social justice community designed to support LGBTQ+ youth in Massachusetts. BAGLY provides community-based leadership development, health promotion, and social support programs for Massachusetts LGBTQ+ youth communities, and is a leader in local and national LGBTQ+ youth advocacy and workforce development. BAGLY’s Boston Programs Coordinator is a full-time position with benefits that reports directly to the Community Center Programs Manager. The Boston Programs Coordinator is responsible for the implementation of BAGLY’s Community Center opportunities to provide social support, leadership development, and advocacy programming with LGBTQ youth.

BAGLY is a committed Learning Organization focusing on continuous quality improvement in programs and service delivery. Program environments are community-based and/or event-based, with much of the programming occurring during afternoons/ early evenings, as well as weekends for special programming/events.

Responsibilities

Under the supervision of the Community Center Programs Manager, the Boston Programs Coordinator works with the Program Management Team, which includes other program staff, youth leaders, adult volunteers, community consultants, and interns to:

  • Coordinate logistics and develop curricula for BAGLY’s Leadership Development activities including; the annual Youth Leadership Retreats, HiSET, and participation at conferences and the BAGLY Speakers Bureau
  • Organize BAGLY’s youth-led advocacy initiatives and support the development of new youth leaders through coordination of BAGLY’s Queer Activist College program
  • Support the coordination of BAGLY’s Social Support and Community Building programs, BAGLY’s Youth Leadership Committee, and maintain weekly social support drop-in spaces
  • Coordinate programming that supports BAGLY’s ongoing work to address the current and emerging needs of LGBTQ youth, youth of color, and/or Trans/ NB youth.
  • Participate in the development, evaluation, and long-term strategic planning of BAGLY’s programs
  • Support Marketing/Development staff in promoting BAGLY’s Boston-based programs and social media presence
  • Represent BAGLY at community events as appropriate
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Strong understanding of, and commitment to, BAGLY’s mission, including youth leadership development, social justice, models of oppression, community organizing, and activism.
  • Experience working with the LGBTQ+ community and familiarity with issues of particular relevance to intersectional identities
  • Understanding of Harm Reduction frameworks and the Trauma-Informed Service Models and how they apply to a client-centered approach.
  • Ability to anticipate and address crises, problem-solve effectively and maintain appropriate boundaries working independently and in collaboration with a team.
  • Working knowledge and relationships with community resources as they relate to LGBTQ+ identities, homelessness, and youth.
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills; public speaking and facilitation.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with people of diverse races, ethnicities, nationalities, sexual orientations, gender identities, socio-economic backgrounds, religions, ages, varying degrees of fluency in English, immigration status, and physical abilities in an intersectional environment.
  • Ability to work independently and as a part of a team.
  • Handle a variety of special projects and other related duties, as assigned.

This is a full time, non-exempt position that requires a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekend hours as needed.

REQUIREMENTS

  • 2-3 years of direct service in youth work, social services, or related experience.
  • Proficiency working with computers and Microsoft Office software including Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneDrive, Slack, database systems, and social media tools.
  • Valid driver’s license and a good driving record.
  • The person in this position may be required to sit or stand for extended periods, maneuver tight storage space, move objects up to 50/25 pounds, ascend/descend stairs, operate office equipment, open and close filing cabinets, and boxes, observe visitors, and communicate messages by telephone.
