Primary Purpose:
The Mount Sinai Adolescent Health Center (“MSAHC” or the “Center”) works to break down racial, social, and economic barriers to health care and wellness for young people by providing vital services - high quality, comprehensive, integrated, and confidential - for all who come to the Center or School-Based health facilities, at no cost to them. The MSAHC advances adolescent and young adult health as a national imperative by serving as a leading center of clinical care, specialized training, innovative research, and advocacy.
The Grant Writer/Manager is responsible for identifying new funding opportunities, applying for new grants, and reporting, monitoring, and ensuring compliance for a portfolio of governmental and private grants. The candidate should have proven expertise in applying to governmental grantors at the federal, state, and city levels, the National Institute of Health (NIH), foundations, and corporations for grants related to service innovation, demonstration projects, evaluation, cost-benefit studies, and research, as well as ensuring compliance with such grants.
Illustrative Job Responsibilities:
· Research primary healthcare, sexual and reproductive health, mental health, social service-related issues, and other issues, and integrate findings including statistics, program models, and trends into a work product;
· In collaboration with the MSAHC Finance Team and IT, manage the renewal and re-application process for existing grants to ensure continuing funding.
B. Grant Monitoring and Reporting
· Manage deliverables, renewal, compliance, and reporting requirements for the Patient-Centric Medical Home to ensure timely compliance;
· Manage and maintain a complete understanding of reporting requirements for MSAHC grants to ensure timely compliance with contract requirements working closely with finance;
· Coordinate and/or prepare MSAHC reporting in collaboration with departmental/program leadership;
· Monitor all internal and final deadlines, ensuring grant components are addressed and met by program staff.
C. Prospecting/Identification of New Funding Opportunities
· To conduct research on prospective state and city service grants as well as foundation, institution, and corporate grants/awards, with a secondary focus on the federal government, research, and NIH grants/awards (collectively “Funding Opportunities”) based on defined MSAHC priorities and knowledge of MSAHC direction and programs;
· Maintain timely database(s) of federal and state governmental, institutional, foundation, and corporate funders and opportunities including but not limited to key elements such as funding history, contact information, prior and current interactions, dates & next steps.
Minimum Requirements:
Education: Minimum of BA/BS, Masters preferred
Experience:
· Commitment to MSAHC’s vision, mission, and approach in order to ensure a patient-centric culture that is collaborative and multidisciplinary;
· At least 3 years of proven expertise in grant writing for federal, state, city, and foundation grants preferably in the health care, medical service, or research arenas;
· A proactive, hands-on thinker with exceptional writing and capability;
· A team player who has the ability to deal professionally, courteously, and efficiently with multiple stakeholders, both internal and external
· Strong online research skills;
· Personal qualities of integrity, credibility, empathy, compassion, and patience;
· Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging;
· An accessible, visible, and flexible work ethic that inspires trust and confidence in staff to work hard and well together;
· Strong interpersonal and communication skills; ability to confidently interact with a variety of constituents including health personnel, scientists, finance, business, and other staff;
