Job Summary: Philly AIDS Thrift @ Giovanni’s Room, the oldest LGBTQ+ & Feminist Bookstore in the country, is seeking an Assistant Bookstore Manager. 

The position is full-time, with up to 37-40 hours per week. Scheduled shifts are between 11:00 AM and 8:00 PM Monday through Sunday. Reliable transportation is a MUST! The wage is dependent on experience.

This role involves supporting the current manager in overseeing staff functions, maintaining inventory, and managing day-to-day store operations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Staff Management:
  • Assist in recruiting, training, supervising, scheduling, and appraising bookstore staff and volunteers.
  • Communicating with upper management, staff, and volunteers
  • Store Operations:
  • Manage opening and closing procedures.
  • Overseeing stock control and inventory of new LGBTQ+ books.
  • Appropriately processing and pricing donations of used books an
  • Maintain accurate records of new and used inventory and assist with yearly audits.
  • Maintaining and updating the website, queerbooks.com
  • Assisting in promoting the store’s image through social media
  • Event Coordination:
  • Assist in planning and promoting store events such as readings and signings.
  • Prepare promotional materials and displays for events and sales.
  • Customer Service:
  • Greet and assist donors, customers, and volunteers courteously and professionally.
  • Address and resolve customer queries and concerns and relaying to the manager.
  • Maintenance and Reporting:
  • Report and address any maintenance or repairs needed in the store.
  • Keep upper management informed of daily operations, ongoing projects, and supply needs.

Job Requirements:

  • High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent.
  • Professional communication skills.
  • Previous experience in a bookstore or retail environment is a plus.
  • Knowledge of LGBTQ+ Authors and Titles is essential
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.

Physical Demands:

  • Regularly required to stand and walk for multiple hours.
  • Ability to handle physical activity and lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Able to climb multiple flights of stairs on a daily basis

Work Environment:

  • Moderate noise level.
  • Exposure to dust and dirt.
