POSITION OVERVIEW

This position reports directly to the Senior Accountant and is responsible for supporting the financial infrastructure and systems needed to support Martha’s Table’s growth in accordance with its Strategic Planning Goals. The Staff Accountant will work with the Senior Accountant and Chief Financial Officer to manage effective financial and administrative systems. 


POSITION DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Responsible for accounts payable and accounts receivable 
  • Reviews invoices and reimbursements for accuracy within database platform
  • Vendor setup in accounting software, including obtaining necessary documentation for payment processing (w-9, banking information, etc.)
  • Processes vendor payments and practices effective monitoring to ensure payments are accurate and made in a timely manner
  • Performs necessary research regarding financial history and vendor accounts to maintain accuracy in financial reporting
  • Maintains electronic financial filing system for ease in retrieval of documents 
  • Maintains meticulous records of outstanding payables and vendor database
  • Prepares regular journal entries to the general ledger primarily related to contributions
  • Prepares monthly journal entries and schedules to assist with month end closing 
  • Supports compliance function by coordinating with Compliance Manager on financial reporting requirements
  • Assist with other finance duties, as assigned


EXPERIENCE, KNOWLEDGE, AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS

  • Strong commitment to Martha’s Table’s mission and a clear sense of the critical role the Staff Accountant plays in advancing that mission
  • Demonstrated commitment to Martha’s Table’s core values of compassion, respect, teamwork, and accountability 
  • Two to three years of related accounting experience, such as general ledger, A/R, and A/P, preferably in a nonprofit setting
  • Demonstrated experience in computerized accounting software, i.e. Blackbaud Financial Edge; and Microsoft
  • Ability to work with minimum supervision
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to multitask and manage in a fast paced environment
  • Ability to collaborate with multiple departments


EDUCATION AND TRAINING REQUIREMENTS

  •  Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting or Business Administration preferred

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. The employee will routinely operate typical business office equipment, including computer hardware.
