About Green Corps

Green Corps was founded in 1992 by U.S. Public Interest Research Group (U.S. PIRG) as the Field School for Environmental Organizing. The mission of Green Corps is to train organizers, provide field support for today’s critical environmental campaigns, and graduate activists who possess the skills, temperament, and commitment to fight and win tomorrow’s  environmental battles.

Green Corps’ Field School for Environmental Organizing is a yearlong program that intersperses intensive classroom instruction with multiple campaign efforts. Trainees gain hands-on experience running field campaigns to win environmental protections, as well as on-the-ground  mentorship from environmental organizers throughout the nation. Today, our graduates work as executive directors, field directors,  campaigners, advocates and grassroots organizers with leading regional and national groups.  Graduates include Patti Lynn, Class of 1997, Executive Director of Corporate Accountability  International; Kirsten Collings, Class of 2004, Deputy Director of Chesapeake Climate Action  Network; Leila Salazar-Lopez, Class of 1999, Executive Director of Amazon Watch; Glenn  Hurowitz, Class of 2002, CEO of Mighty Earth.
