    The Louisiana Bucket Brigade is a 501(c)(3) environmental health and justice organization working with communities that neighbor the state's oil refineries and chemical plants. We use grassroots action to create an informed, healthy society that holds the petrochemical industry and government accountable for the true costs of pollution to hasten the transition from fossil fuels. Our vision is a Louisiana that is a healthy, prosperous, pollution-free and just state where people and the environment are valued over profit. We seek an experienced guide to join our team in advancing this important work.

    Purpose of Position: The purpose of the Program Coordinator, Down by the River Bike Ride (DBTR) is to educate and inform the public about the historical and cultural significance of the river region by bringing the riders face-to-face with two powerful forces in Louisiana: local Black history and the environmental justice movement. The Coordinator recruits participants for the bike ride, organizes the logistics, and leads the bike ride.

    Reports to: Development Director

    Job Status: Full-time, 40 hours per week

    Salary: $56,250 annually

    Location: Based in New Orleans, with bike rides taking place in Norco, LA

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities

    Facilitate Guided Bike Rides (20%)

    • Conduct scripted bike ride for approximately 14 miles along the Mississippi River levee
    • Ensure everyone has proper equipment and have been prepped with safety guidelines
    • Assure everyone in the group has returned, is accounted for, has returned equipment and received information
    • Administer pre-ride liability waivers and post-ride surveys
    • Troubleshoot and prepare for problems that may arise and maintain an on-site inventory of necessary equipment, including bike locks, bike pumps, tools, etc.
    • Make sure all bikes are returned to the storage unit after the ride

    Marketing and Promotion (35%)

    • Collaborate with the development director, social media coordinator, and media team as necessary to determine core messaging for the bike ride and promote DBTR
    • Develop and implement the DBTR marketing plan
    • Maintain accurate tracking of booked rides, ride participants, donations received from bike rides, and participant feedback database of past and potential riders
    • Conduct outreach efforts to target audiences: prior participants, local universities and K-12 schools, donors, convention center, conference attendees, and organizations interested in social justice
    • Review post-ride surveys and implement improvements to the bike ride based on feedback
    • Manage advertising, and work with a designer as necessary to develop marketing materials
    • Coordinate with the Website Content Coordinator to maintain online forms related to DBTR and make updates to messaging on the website.
    • Coordinate with photographers/videographers to produce and maintain a database of visuals to market the ride
    • Attend conferences, markets, school fairs, etc., to market the ride and network with individuals

    Coordinate Bike Ride Logistics (30%)

    • Assure scheduling and execution of bike rides, including arranging for a community partner to co-lead the ride
    • Assure smooth functioning of all tasks required for the bike ride to function: receive all bike ride requests, maintain a database of all requests, and rides completed
    • Assure proper scheduling of seasonal mechanics and volunteers
    • Arrange lunches or special events along the route as necessary
    • Maintain inventory in bike storage units, coordinate bike repairs with mechanic, transport bikes for repair and maintenance, and supply new bikes to grow the fleet as necessary
    • Maintain the budget in concert with the Development Director; collaborate with the accountant as necessary

    Maintain tour content (10%)

    • Remain apprised of LABB’s work and developing news of relevance to the ride in both the areas of environmental justice and African American history for the region
    • Update tour content and script to reflect new information; keep the tour fresh and alive
    • Maintain visual aids and bibliography of the ride

    Fulfill staff requirements (5%)

    • Participate in staff meetings, team building events
    • Complete annual DEI hours, including required staff training
    • Use professional development funds to pursue learning that will enhance and complement the skills and capacities necessary for the role.
    • Complete fundraising metrics reports and assist with other development activities as requested
    • Work with development staff to ensure the proper engagement and cultivation of individuals who participate in our education programs.

    The percentages listed above are based on an average of 3 rides per month and percentages between the rides and marketing the ride will vary based on season and effectiveness of marketing strategies. The expectation is that these percentages will shift. Future success in this role will mean more time will be spent executing rides than marketing them.

    Required Experience and Qualifications

    • At least two years of experience working with groups of diverse backgrounds and temperaments
    • At least two years in an education or tourism setting
    • Action-oriented, good at retaining information, high-energy, and a strong storyteller
    • Excellent organizational skills, including attention to detail, good recordkeeping, responsible time management, and the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines in both an independently and collaboratively
    • Must be punctual and able to keep a group on schedule without imparting stress or a feeling of being rushed
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Be physically able to ride the 14-mile route on a bike
    • Marketing or public relations/advertising experience

    Other Requirements

    • Valid driver’s license is required to operate a vehicle when necessary
    • Some evening and weekend work required
