East Bay Community Law Center (EBCLC) is a non-profit legal services organization, the community-based clinical program for U.C. Berkeley Law School, and one of the Bay Area’s largest and most effective systems disrupters. With a dual service and teaching mission, EBCLC is a racial justice organization committed to building a culturally diverse workplace, centered on equity. With about 80 staff, 150 law students a year, and a nearly $10 million annual budget, EBCLC is the largest provider of free legal services in Alameda County, providing multimodal, collaborative, and holistic legal services to over 5,000 clients annually and engaging in legislative and policy advocacy at the state and local level. 

The Executive Assistant manages special projects and provides key administrative coordination to the Executive Director. The Executive Assistant must be an organized, flexible, proactive individual with excellent judgment and discretion, strong writing skills, and a commitment to racial justice. We are looking for someone who is committed to learning, growing, and making strategic recommendations. The Executive Assistant reports to the Executive Director. 

Primary Responsibilities: 

Provide project management and administrative support to the Executive Director, and EBCLC’s executive management team as needed, including the following: 

  • Manage Executive Director’s calendar, including gracious and diligent communications with donors, board members, and staff; 
  • Project manage organization-wide affairs, including community events, fundraisers, and social events; 
  • Assist on high-level communications, including support on drafting and copy-editing press releases, internal and external presentations, social media content, and letters; 
  • Provide administrative coordination for all staff and board meetings, including arranging logistics, prepping meeting materials, taking notes, and tracking attendance;   
  • Oversee Executive Director’s expense records and reporting; 
  • Serve as a key liaison between Executive Director, Executive Management, and staff; 
  • Manage office-wide projects as needed, including planning and providing coordination for an office move and assessing and improving Executive Team’s digital filing system by organizing, filing, and producing key documents; 
  • Other duties as assigned by Executive Director 

Minimum Qualifications: 

  • Understanding of and commitment to Racial Justice  
  • 4 years of administrative or other similar experience 
  • Detail-oriented with demonstrated time-management, priority-setting, and organizational skills 
  • Demonstrated success collaborating with and/or providing strong customer service to people at various intersections including undocumented persons, homeless and marginally housed individuals, LGBTQI persons, non-binary people, youth, English as a second language learners, people with disabilities, transgender persons, and formerly incarcerated persons. A lived experience that reflects these communities is highly desirable 
  • Ability to exercise diplomacy and tact in handling confidential and/or sensitive matters 
  • Excellent written communications skills 
  • Independent self-starter and outstanding team player 
  • Flexible and able to work in a fast-changing environment 
  • Demonstrated proficiency with Office 365, Google Suite, and WordPress; proficiency in mail chimp, Prezi, Canva, and Adobe Creative Suite helpful 
  • Previous experience supporting an executive-level position in a non-profit setting preferred 

Salary and Benefits  

Starting salary for this full-time exempt position is $66,000-$74,000 based on the number of years of prior relevant experience, as dictated by EBCLC’s salary scale. Benefits include fully paid health insurance (medical, dental, and vision) for employees and their dependents, life and disability insurance, and generous paid leave (vacation, sick, and holidays); EBCLC also offers flexible spending accounts for qualified health, dependent care, and commute expenditures; and retirement options.  

Workplace Expectations  

Due to COVID-19, nearly all EBCLC employees are primarily working remotely. Staff may work in the office if they wish to do so, subject to certain capacity limits and other safety protocols. Please note, however, that the Executive Assistant may be required to work in the office when necessary to carry out the duties of their role. EBCLC will provide the necessary equipment to fulfill the job responsibilities of working from home.
