POSITION TITLE: Bookkeeper
POSITION TYPE: Clerical – Full-time Non-Exempt
DESCRIPTION: Perform functions for bookkeeping/ accounting for Ascencia’s AP/ AR, payroll and monthly invoices. This position will work with the Senior Accountant, and Director of Operations, to ensure compliance with GAAP and government regulations.
REPORTS TO: Director of Operations
SALARY: $35-$40/ hour, Depending on experience
Duties and Responsibilities:
Bookkeepers are responsible for several duties related to managing financial records these responsibilities include:
- Processing payments, invoices, income and receipts and entering data into accounting software or databases then filing hard copies
- Preparing financial statements showing business income and expenditure
- Paying vendor invoices and tracking bank account balances
- Verifying the accuracy of business accounts and alerting the Accountant of errors
- Recording any inconsistencies to help the Accountants reconcile inaccuracies
- Developing monthly financial statements including cash flow, profit and loss and balance sheets
- Preparing employee wages
- Managing employee expense claims, including mileage reimbursement
- Helping the Accountant with administrative duties and preparing yearly accounts
- Support semi-monthly payroll
Education and Experience Requirements:
- Minimum of two-year or Associates’ degree in Business, Accounting, Finance, or related field.
- Minimum of five years’ bookkeeping work experience with at least three years of experience working with federal grants.
Qualifications and Requirements for this Position:
- Strong communication skills and ability to effectively communicate with all levels of personnel
- Ability to juggle multiple projects in a fast-paced environment to meet changing requirements and deadlines
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
- Demonstrated record of work within a team
- Experience working with homeless service agencies preferred
- Strong ability to operate independently; a self-starter and problem solver
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and at least two years of experience using accounting software such as Sage Intacct, QuickBooks, Great Plains, Financial Edge, or Bill.com
- Strong knowledge of GAAP and ability to comprehend government regulatory language
- Ability to develop creative solutions
- Ability to explain work, and clearly and respectfully communicate issues and concerns to diverse audiences, including people who are homeless and mentally ill
- Must possess a valid Driver License and have reliable transportation for job related travel.
- Must meet insurance carrier’s requirements for approval to drive agency vehicles.
- Employees must carry active and adequate auto insurance corresponding to regulatory requirements if driving any vehicle not owned or leased by Ascencia on agency related business
