The Center for Court Innovation is a non-profit organization that works to create a more effective and humane justice system by performing original research and helping launch reforms by guiding justice innovators, nationally and internationally. The Center creates operating projects that have been documented to reduce the use of jail and prison, assist victims of crime, and strengthen communities. 

The Reimagining Intimacy through Social Engagement (RISE) Project responds to the intersection of Intimate Partner Violence (IPV) and gun violence and supports healthy relationship norms and the prevention of intimate partner violence at the community level. The RISE Project draws on public health, community organizing and transformative justice models to create a holistic approach to violence.

RISE is seeking an Outreach Worker to support a community-based initiative focused on addressing the intersection of gun violence and Intimate Partner Violence (IPV). The outreach worker will work collaboratively to focus on community engagement and norms change, violence prevention, and supportive services. RISE Project works in collaboration with the Mayor’s Office of Neighborhood Safety.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Educate and support staff at Crisis Management System sites on issues of IPV, their intersection with community gun violence, and strategies for promoting healthy relationships through training, information sharing, and collaboration;
  • Support the facilitation of regular trainings on IPV for staff and community at large;
  • Assist in facilitating youth programs focused on healthy relationships and IPV prevention;
  • Conduct regular community outreach and participate in community events to promote the program;
  • Organize and facilitate community events focused on healthy relationships and community healing;
  • Provide community-based crisis intervention and individual engagement to facilitate the removal of barriers to resources for identified individuals and their families;
  • Identify and form relationships with individuals who are experiencing intimate partner violence and offer them supportive services and resource referrals;
  • Build and maintain a caseload and provide clients with advocacy, support, and linkages to programs and opportunities;
  • Establish and maintain strong relationships, networking and advocacy with public and private local stakeholders that provide services to community residents and to those impacted by intimate partner violence;
  • Assess identified needs pertaining to IPV for individuals and/or families to establish suitable referrals and effective interventions;
  • Attend and participate in all mandatory staff meetings, trainings, workshops and other team meetings as required, which may include non-traditional business hours;
  • Submit regular monthly reports to Program Manager to capture pertinent program data;
  • Additional relevant tasks, as necessary.

Position Location: Brooklyn, Queens, Bronx

Position Type: Full-time, evenings and weekends. Schedule may be flexible, changing, and include late nights.

Qualifications: The ideal candidate will have a bachelor’s degree or 2-3 years of experience in a position directly related to intimate partner violence, as well as experience in community organizing, community engagement and group facilitation. This exciting position requires a creative self-starter who can accomplish tasks in a fast-paced environment. This position requires a flexible schedule with frequent travel across the City and regular evening and weekend hours. Candidates must be comfortable navigating interdisciplinary settings and must be willing to roll up their sleeves and be actively involved in day-to-day operations.  Experience with transformative justice frameworks, individual counseling, and community-based violence prevention preferred. 

Compensation: Salary range starts at $46,170 and is commensurate with experience.
