ORGANIZATIONAL BACKGROUND

Cornerstone West Community Development Corporation is a non-profit organization based in Wilmington, DE. Cornerstone West CDC’s mission is to create affordable housing and promote the revitalization of Wilmington’s West Side, a unique and historic neighborhood made up of a collection of four small but cohesive communities at the doorstep of downtown. A testament to Wilmington’s diversity, the West Side is home to some of the most economically, racially, and socially diverse communities in the state. Cornerstone facilitated the development of a West Side Revitalization Plan in 2012 and is leading implementation efforts through the West Side Grows Together initiative in the areas of economic development, community development, and housing. Cornerstone is a fast-paced, collaborative environment that emphasizes continuous learning. Our small team seeks a community leader to develop and build the Healthy Neighborhoods focus of the Revitalization Plan. SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES

The Healthy Neighborhoods Manager will have the opportunity to build new programs, collaborate with key stakeholders, community leaders and residents, and support community development projects, including the new Open Streets Initiative and West Side Farmers Market. The Manager will work closely with the President and fellow team members to implement and evaluate core programs in the organization’s Healthy Neighborhoods focus area, including but not limited to: urban agriculture, parks and open space revitalization, Friends of the Parks development, and community engagement. The Manager reports to Cornerstone’s President and is a full-time position.

RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

• Support the implementation and administration of healthy neighborhoods programs, including; the Community Playground Design Project; Friends of the Parks; the Urban Agriculture Initiative (community gardens, farmers market); and Open Streets Wilmington.

• Develop and lead new and expanded initiatives in a collaborative, fast-paced environment. Devise strategies to ensure growth of programs and initiatives.

• Facilitate small and large group meetings (Friends of the Parks Groups, Local Food Committee, and Open Streets Steering Committee) to gain consensus and to advance neighborhood priorities.

• Maintain and enhance relationships with stakeholders throughout the West Side Grows Together Steering Committee and affiliated sub-committees.

• Coordinate the utilization of existing programs, such as state and federal funding sources and grant opportunities, administration procedures, political mechanisms, legal tools, etc., as appropriate, to promote community development.

• Oversee the collection and maintenance of records on the programs for data, documentation, evaluation, and reporting purposes.

• Liaise with coworkers and programs across the organization to ensure effective and efficient program delivery.

• Conduct outreach for program events, meetings, and resources in the community.

• Network with businesses, nonprofits, schools and government offices to identify resources and

develop and maintain partnerships to strengthen service delivery, to develop programs, and

address community needs.

• Represent organization at local and city-wide meetings and events.

• Stay informed of best practices in the field of community development and participate in

workshops and training when required.

  • Plan West Side Grows Together’s events/activities and assist with social media promotions.

• Supervise part-time staff, interns, volunteers, when needed.

• Performs other duties, as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

The knowledge and abilities which are required to perform the duties and responsibilities of this position are as follows:

Ability to:

• Articulate vision and think creatively.

• Communicate effectively (oral and written).

• Show attention to detail.

• Problem-solve (independently and thoroughly seeking out answers to problems and questions).

Knowledge of:

• Neighborhood development and urban planning.

• Graphic design (preferred).

• Microsoft Word, Excel, Powerpoint, and Google Suite.

EDUCATION

Bachelor’s degree in a related field which has equipped applicant with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the duties of the position. Master’s degree preferred. Or equivalent experience.

EXPERIENCE

Minimum three years of experience in community planning, community development, public health, or community organizing.

SALARY/BENEFITS:

Salary range - $42,000 - $50,000 - Compensation is competitive and based on a combination of qualifications and experience.

CONDITIONS OF HIRE:

• A satisfactory criminal background check and valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record are required at time of appointment and throughout employment in this position.

• Must have own transportation.

• Must be able to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends, in order to attend

community meetings and events.
