US Together, Inc. is a not-for-profit 501(c)(3) mutual assistance agency founded in 2003 as a response to the needs of refugees and immigrants in central Ohio.

• As a Refugee Resettlement Agency and an affiliate of the Hebrew Immigrant Aid Society, we welcome refugees from all over the world who are forced to seek refuge in another country due to the inability to stay in their native country. Services are provided in our Columbus, Cleveland, and Toledo offices. We serve people who came from many countries where their rights and very lives are in danger. They are starting their lives anew in the United States.

Position Overview:

• This position will primarily be responsible for submitting public benefits applications and health screening requests for newly arriving refugee and immigrant clients and coordinating/scheduling associated appointments as needed

▪ This position will report directly to the following staff members: Ron Hedrick – UST-Cleveland’s Site Director; Elisia Hersh – Resettlement Programs Manager; & Luda Pinchuk – Senior Case Manager / Direct Service

Public Benefits Coordinator Responsibilities Include, But Are Not Limited To:

▪ Develop a comprehensive understanding of public benefits and additional assistance options, including associated eligibility criteria and participation requirements according to local county and state guidelines.

▪ Identify and assess client eligibility for public benefits, including but not limited to RCA / TANF, the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), Medicaid, the Low-Income Energy Assistance Program (LEAP) and other available options

▪ Assist UST clients/cases with any/all associated ODJFS interview processes and applications for public benefits; communicate with county and state officers and stakeholders to ensure UST clients receive benefits in a timely manner

▪ Coordinate with local health/medical service providers to ensure newly arriving refugee and immigrant individuals/families receive required health screenings; maintain regular, ongoing communication with local health/medical service providers

▪ Work closely with clients, caseworkers, local service providers, community partners, and direct assistance specialists to develop individualized service plans related to public benefits coordination and health/medical access

▪ Work with families referred for childcare support to complete applications, research prospective providers, arrange facility tours and deliver training on check-in/check-out procedures as well as bus orientation.

▪ Maintain professional relationships with county and state partners to facilitate the most effective flow of public benefit coordination, health/medical referrals, and other available assistance options to clients.

▪ Perform administrative tasks, including maintaining accurate and timely case notes, updating client case files per program requirements, filing documentation per UST programming requirements

▪ As requested, attend any/all meetings, both internal and external, related to public benefits coordination and other available assistance options; create and provide training and assistance to ODJFS employees regarding refugee and immigrant populations and their eligibility for benefits

▪ Serve as the main point of contact for ODJFS and eligible clients for assistance, enrollment/re-enrollment, and problemsolving

regarding ODJFS benefits.

▪ Provide transportation orientation and training, both general and specific, to clients either through managed care plan

and/or available RTA resources

Position Requirements:

▪ Undergraduate degree with at least two years of related work experience in nonprofit organizations, refugee resettlement,

social work, public benefits, and/or health/medical administration preferred.

▪ Proven ability to maintain regular ongoing communication with network of public assistance offices, health/medical service

providers, and other related community stakeholders

▪ Familiarity with various public assistance options, such as TANF, RCA, LEAP, SNAP, RMA, and Medicaid programs preferred;

prior experience working with ODJFS and Neighborhood Family Practice preferred

▪ Proficient in general office software applications, e. g., MS Word, Excel, Outlook, internet applications and database

systems.

▪ Excellent written and oral communication skills; Fluent in English, both spoken and written; bilingual ability in another

primary caseload language is helpful; proficiency in Dari/Pashto, Swahili, and/or Arabic preferred

▪ Superior attention to detail, ability to navigate complexity, time management and organizational skills.

▪ Ability to effectively communicate and work as a team leader and team member in a cross-cultural environment.
