    Descrição

Oakland Privacy has once again been generously funded by the Rose Foundation for Communities and the Environment for a part-time fellow to aid us in our work and help us expand its scope.

This is a unique opportunity to do hands-on implementation of enhanced privacy rights and enact social change beyond research and white papers.

The work would be focused in the following areas:

    • Artificial Intelligence Regulation

The fellow will coordinate input for ongoing artificial intelligence and algorithmic decision-making rulemaking- The fellow will also track and guide our responses to state-level legislation which has already or we know will be introduced in 2025. Lastly, the fellow will help develop targeted model local legislation focusing on AI performance auditing, algorithmic transparency and complaint/appeal processes, providing a laboratory for the political and implementation challenges accompanying larger-scale regulation.

    • Digital Security

The fellow will update and expand our public awareness materials about keeping yourself safe online to meet the challenges of the second Trump administration. This would include research, analysis of the pros and cons of various options and brainstorming creative ways to present the information for audiences with varying levels of technical understanding.

You would work closely on these tasks with one or more of our experienced volunteers, experts in advocacy and privacy legislation, and knowledgeable about what is happening currently in AI

Take as much space as you need, but please don't stress out and write us a book. We just want to get to know you a little, and you will have a chance to expand if we select you for an interview.

    1) Why are you interested in this position?

    2) Do you have experience in creating public awareness materials? How would you approach explaining a complex technical issue for mainstream audiences?

    3) Have you ever worked on a legislative campaign to get a local government body to adopt a policy? If so, what lessons did you learn from that experience? If not, tell us about an experience you’ve had persuading a person or a body to do something they had some concerns about?

    4) Do you have any thoughts about the onset of artificial intelligence? Have you taken any coursework in AI? Have you used ChatGPT or its relatives, text-to-image apps, or similar in a serious way? Are you excited by it, horrified by it or some of both?

    6) Can you commit to 40 hours a month for the period of March 1, 2025 to February 28, 2026?
