Communications Intern

Position Overview

The Communications Intern will gain experience in building internal/external

relationships with the community, organization, and media partners. The intern will

also gain experience in professional writing and graphic design.

Ideal candidates will be able to commit for the full year (September-May, with breaks

for holidays and exams), but candidates who can only commit through December will

also be considered.

The majority of work can be done remotely, but candidates must reside in Chicagoland

in order to attend some in-person requirements such as client interviews and events.

Candidates must be available to meet for at least one hour per week during regular

business hours, between 9 AM - 5 PM Monday-Thursday. All other work may be

completed on the candidates own time.

Reports to: Director of Development and Communications

Roles & Responsibilities

• Support the Director of Development and Communications in developing and managing a consistent, branded communications strategy and calendar
• Review and update the organization’s style guide
• Produce written and visual materials to support SCN communications for the website, social media, newsletters, printed materials, and more.
• Use ethical storytelling techniques to collect client stories to be used in external communications materials.
• Assist with special events communications, including execution of the event.
• Assist with any photography needs.
• Any other duties as assigned by the Director of Development and Communications.

Key Skills and Competencies:

• Intern should have experience in communications or a related field with skills in graphic design, photography, written and oral communication.
• Commitment to social justice and basic understanding of issues affecting refugees.
• Knowledge of Google Products, Microsoft Office, Canva, Constant Contact preferred.
• Meets weekly with their supervisor.
