Internship Overview
The Center for Latter-day Saint Arts seeks to provide an educational, mentorship-based internship experience to one qualified and creative individual for Fall 2024 / Winter 2025. The program will provide the intern new knowledge and experiences of art in a range of disciplines (dance, drama, film, literature, music, and visual art) and insight into the work of non-profit arts professionals who produce museum exhibitions, concerts, book-length publications, artist residency programs, calls for artist submissions, and a host of digital programming including podcasts, newsletters, articles, and learning materials and arts-based online courses. The Intern will explore several areas of a non-profit arts organization by assisting the Director of Communications with initiatives related to the marketing, public relations, and storytelling of the organization and its projects.
Responsibilities
Depending upon the intern’s expertise, assigned tasks related to the communications of Center artistic projects will include:
The intern will report to the Director of Communications and will work directly with the Director of Special Projects, and the Executive Director. The intern will be provided weekly meetings to give direction on tasks and mutually share insight on progress.
Job Dimensions/Special Requirements
Preference will be given to candidates based in New York City or Salt Lake City either permanently or willing to relocate for the duration of the internship (moving/living expenses not provided). The work schedule will be weekdays during business hours (specific schedule to be set according to intern’s availability), starting December 2, 2024 for 20 weeks (through April 21, 2025). Work hours are highly flexible, for a total of 16 hours per week (equivalent of two days). The intern is not expected to work holidays.
Student Qualities/Experience Desired
Unlike many internships that are specific to a single area of expertise, the multidisciplinary nature of the Center broadens the range of desired qualifications considerably. A strong background, or strong interest, in dance, drama, film, graphic design, literature, music, or visual art is needed. Proficiency in the Adobe suite, Figma, Canva, or other design software, as well as the Instagram, Facebook, and Linkedin platforms, is required. Experience with Hootsuite or other social media management platforms, as well as gathering and analyzing data is preferred. Applicants should be conversant in and sympathetic to the arts culture of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Applicants must be self-starters, with proven writing and research skills, able to verbally communicate efficiently, and possess the ability to interact with diverse populations with respect.
