AmeriCorps, often called America's "Domestic Peace Corps," started operations in 1993. Project CHANGE is seeking members for its 2021-2022 service year, which runs from August 2021 to August 2022. Members receive training, a living stipend, an educational scholarship, health benefits, and a life-enriching experience. Positions are full time.


Assignments in Montgomery County's Project CHANGE can include the following nonprofit and educational organizations:


George B. Thomas, Sr. Learning Academy: Provides Saturday School for all students in Montgomery County. The part time AmeriCorps member works directly with students in this program.


Gandhi Brigade: Provides training to youth in film and documentary making. Members facilitate the planning and delivery of this creative work.


Hospice Caring: Provides support services to children facing a life-threatening illness or grieving the death of a loved one. The part time AmeriCorps member helps to coordinate and facilitate the Good Grief Clubs for students.


Montgomery County Public Schools: One full time member will support two Focus elementary schools with the implementation of accelerated mathematics in grades 4 and/or 5. The AmeriCorps member will require an understanding of mathematics. One part time member will be used to support the Dual Language Program at Kemp Mill ES. The AmeriCorps member would work with students in mathematics or science related classes to students in grade 3-5. The teacher must be a fluent Spanish speaker and have an understanding of mathematics and science.  


Montgomery County Public Schools Study Circles Program: The full time members involved with Study Circles recruit volunteers and help coordinate meetings that focus on issues of race and ethnicity. 


Montgomery Housing Partnership: Provides after school programs for students, and the full time AmeriCorps members help to coordinate and supervise preschool and after-school centers.


YMCA Youth and Family Services: Coordinates after school programs for kids K-12, and full time members serve as program coordinators.
