Maitri Compassionate Care

No one should have to suffer, transition, or die alone.

Since 1987, Maitri has provided compassionate care to low-income people living with HIV/AIDS in San Francisco. As the nature of the epidemic has shifted, so has Maitri’s services as we work to meet the needs of the most vulnerable in our community.

Our Residential Care Program offers three pathways of care: Medical Respite and Restorative Care, Gender Affirmation Care, and continuing our legacy of compassion, Hospice Care.

All residents receive the same tailored care options through an interdisciplinary care model that combines clinically excellent medical and mental health care with volunteer support and nutritious food in a homelike setting.

Maitri’s BRANCH Aftercare Program supports residents exiting our Medical Respite and Gender Affirmation Care Pathways to ensure they can live independently in the community. 

Volunteering at Maitri provides you with invaluable experience in caring for another, with opportunities ranging from escorting to doctor's appointments to sitting by the bedside.
