Volunteering at Fairfax House gives you the chance to protect and share a beautiful eighteenth century townhouse.
Our Room Hosts are essential and valued members of our team. They welcome visitors to the house, give a great visitor experience, and tell its many intriguing stories. It’s a great way to increase your skills and knowledge, especially if you’re interested in history, museums or education.
It’s very flexible and a low time commitment - we only ask you to work one 2.5 hour shift a fortnight, entirely around your availability - but the difference you’ll make to our visitors is immeasurable. You’ll also be joining our volunteer community, so it’s a great way to meet like-minded people!
Is this role for me?
You don’t need any specific knowledge or experience for this role - we’ll give you full training which includes teaching you everything you need to know about the house. You’ll particularly enjoy this role if:

You'll be based at Fairfax House, our Georgian townhouse museum in the heart of the city of York - round the corner from Coppergate, on Castlegate.
