The Co Lab’s mission to empower teens to become changemakers around the world! We offer teens ages 13-19 from anywhere in the world a virtual platform (SDG Hubs) to generate change through purposeful conversation and actions focused on the United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). We provide exposure to leadership opportunities, educational resources, and networking opportunities with peers and mentors globally who share similar passions.

Each Hub meets weekly and is led by ideally two teens with at least one adult mentor. Mentors are asked to attend the SDG Hub, a one-hour meeting once a week to support the Hub. All Hub projects follow the passion and interests of the teens in the Hub.

Mentors role is to:

● Be an adult in the room and create a safe space for teens to connect.

● Be supportive and mindful of the teens learning to be leaders.

● Help them brainstorm projects and how best to address next steps.

● Create connections and explore necessary resources to execute projects.

Mentors responsibilities include:

● Attend weekly hub meetings (1 hr per week) consistently.

● Attend monthly All Hands meeting which are followed by a short mentor meeting (1.5 hrs per month) typically on a Saturday.

● Ensure the Hub room is safe and supportive of each member who attends.

● Empower teens by supporting them in running meetings, writing agendas, organizing themselves, learning to welcome new teens, delegating, and collaborating.

● Develop constructive relationships with the teen leaders and members and offering guidance as appropriate. Some days this will look like providing insight on their comments; other days it will require reaching out to help them connect with community organizations.

● Be willing to let the teens lead - Mentors shouldn’t dominate the meetings but let the teens be the ones to do most of the speaking, allow them to answer questions, explore ideas and then pitch in.

● Effectively communicate through our Slack channel. If unable to attend a meeting, notify the group in Slack in advance when possible.

● Passionate about mentoring a teen demographic.

● Passionate about the SDG Hub topic and willing to help the hub explore that topic.

● Do not need to be a subject matter expert.

To apply to be a mentor, please complete the form following the link at the top of this page. If selected as a mentor, you will then attend the hub meetings that you are most interested in and see which one might be the best fit. We will share our Slack channel and meeting rooms accordingly. Upon selection, you will also need to complete the Mentor release form and onboarding.

We are grateful to have you interested in supporting teen changemakers with us and hope to have you join the Co Lab team!
